How We Met

From the nation's capital to Ohio's capital

Abby and Justin officially met in early 2016. They connected during the wild 2016 election while volunteering on a campaign trip in the winter tundra of New Hampshire. Thanks to help from mutual friends, they kept talking after returning to their jobs on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Justin moved away for a few months to work on a campaign, but that didn't stop Abby. When he returned, they made it official and never looked back. Justin officially moved away from D.C. to Columbus in 2017. After more than a year apart, Abby joined him and moved to Columbus. Two apartments and one chocolate lab later, Abby and Justin bought a home in Dublin in August. They're living the suburban life and can't wait to begin their lives together as husband and wife.

The proposal

July 21, 2020

2020 was no match for Justin's patience. After the pandemic crushed a few of his plans, Justin achieved the perfect proposal moment while on vacation with Abby's family in July. The Finn Family grew up traveling to northern Michigan, enjoying weeks of the lake, sunshine, euchre, and plenty of drinks. Among the vacation traditions is a day trip to Mackinac Island - a small island that sits in Lake Huron and can only be traveled on foot, bike, or horse. The two traveled to the island on that Tuesday and it was sunny, 70 degrees, and perfectly calm. They walked to Arch Rock, had lunch and drinks at the Pink Pony, and rented a tandem bike (a true test of a solid relationship) to ride around the island. Justin, who loves to photograph with his Canon, pulled over at the side of the lake to take some photos of the Mackinac Bridge. He set the self-timer, ran to Abby, and dropped down on one knee. Abby may or may not have momentarily blacked out, but obviously said YES. We know 2020 has been such a tough year for everyone and we're eager to (hopefully) have this pandemic mainly past us by October 9. We're so excited to celebrate hard (and safely!) with you!
