Our Love Story

A story full of second chances.

Our story began on November 11, 2017, with all the classic, cringe-worthy awkwardness of a first date. We met on a dating app, and our first encounter was a polite disaster: a coffee shop, a farmers market, and Rachel in her nervousness, directed Graeme to a random parking lot so he wouldn't know her exact address when he offered her a ride home. When a few days passed and she didn't hear from him, she figured that was that. A nice try, but nothing more than that. We almost never spoke again. Then came the surprise sequel. A message from Graeme appeared on the dating app—turns out, he tried to text message her and it did not deliver! Our second date was at The Keg, a place he chose to impress her, but also, as he later confessed, to use a gift card. It was there, over a nice meal, that we discovered our shared interests and goals. The conversation flowed, and the nervous shell we'd both been hiding in started to crack. The dates continued until we weren't just a couple; we were best friends, building a love that felt incredibly special. Over the next few years, we navigated life as a team and adopted our sweet kitten George. But then, as in any good rom-com, obstacles appeared, and we broke up for nearly two years. It was a challenging time that allowed us to find ourselves. We both carried the heartbreaking fear that we'd walked away from our forever love. In a weird parallel plot twist, we each ran off to the mountains for some soul-searching—Rachel in the Rockies, and Graeme on Vancouver Island. Separately, we were both on a journey to find ourselves, a journey that, unbeknownst to us, was bringing us closer all along. The turning point came with a single, little social media post. Rachel made a whirlwind, daytrip to Vancouver Island while spending the weekend in Vancouver and posted about it. Graeme saw it (which she knew he would), and in a move of pure rom-com bravery, he couldn't help himself. He reached out, and Rachel was glad that he did. From that moment, we started talking again. The big, emotional climax was a phone call around Christmas 2022 where Graeme confessed he was still in love with Rachel. It was a line that reignited a flame that had never truly gone out. That February, Rachel flew out to see Graeme. After nearly getting trapped by an ice storm and running to make her flight connection, we were finally reunited. Within an hour of seeing each other again, we were sitting in a cafe on a pier in Sydney, and the waitress, with a knowing smile, asked if we were newlyweds. We just laughed, thinking, if only she knew the ridiculous, messy, and perfect journey we'd been on to get to that moment. That trip confirmed it all: our time apart had only solidified the truth that we were meant to be together, and we would never be apart again...
