Wedding Party

A quick little guide to some of the important ones we've chosen to stand by our side and help on our big day!

Brian Harmse

Officiant

As the favorite of all of the groom's younger brothers (even if he is the only one), Brian has been given the honorable task of marrying Roxy and Jon. They couldn't be more excited about it and know that he will make the day that much more special. With Brian's work on the cruise ship, he gets to come back home just twice a year for a little over a month each time. Those times are usually filled with races, adventures and the inevitable house projects and have brought Brian closer to the bride and groom. They always look froward to the next time he is back, but especially this next time which will be for the wedding!

Bonnie Corwin

Maid of Honor

Bonnie and Roxy met almost two years ago when one of Bonnie’s precious fur babies came into the animal hospital where Roxy worked. Roxy was one of the only technicians who Bonnie’s dog, Newt, would let near him to treat him. Fast forward to a year or so later when Bonnie started her own company here in SLO, a next level dog walking business for dogs that need adventure and owners who want their pups to maintain good manners, while having fun and getting exercised. She was just what Roxy and Jon needed for their fur babies Vixey and Steele. And well, the rest is history. Now Roxy and Bonnie are besties and true soul sisters who spend as much of their time available exploring and adventuring together as well as touring the numerous wineries in the area.

Emma Smith

Maid of Honor

As the little sister of the bride, Roxy of course wanted Emma to have a special role in her wedding. Since they were little the phrase ‘Ohana’ has meant a lot to their family, and gotten them through all the typical family dramas and more. Emma and Roxy know each other not only as a people, but as sisters (for better or for worse :]P), and Roxy cannot wait to welcome her sister up there by her side on such an important day.

Brittany Spoerl

Maid of Honor

Brittany and Roxy go way back to the very beginnings of high school where they both began their journeys as green and gold mustangs ;] Brittany has remained one of Roxy’s closest and dearest friends, as well as one of the most genuinely good people she has ever met. They have been there for each other through all of the major events in a person’s “coming of age” - from boyfriends, high school drama, sports, weekend family trips, dances, October birthdays, and going to colleges across the country from one another (Brittany did not stay a tried and true mustang as Roxy did :]P but instead went on to be a Buckeye), to now. Roxy could never in a thousand years imagine marrying the man of her dreams without Brittany close at her side. She would not be the person she is today without her!

Lauren Rubcic

Bridesmaid

Lauren and Roxy met on the first day of WOW Week Orientation at Cal Poly!! They were both placed in the same WOW group, and lived in the same on campus apartments. From there Lauren and Roxy grew to become great friends - they lived off campus together for the next 3 years (along with fellow bridesmaid Kaori) in the basement of an awesome house with 4 other incredible girls. It was like their own little studio down there, and Roxy often felt like Lauren was a sister, she was so easy to talk to and share the ups and downs of college life.

Kat Ivey

Bridesmaid

Kat and Roxy each attended Cal Poly SLO and majored in Animal Science, but ironically they did not became friends until they both found themselves working at Edna Valley Veterinary Clinic. From there their friendship grew as they discovered their mutual love for animals, wine, camping, hot springs and nude beaches. Kat is truly a unique person who has become an important piece of the Ohana that Roxy has chosen.

Kaori Funahashi

Bridesmaid

Kaori and Roxy’s history goes all the way back to high school where they were rivals! They both ran cross country and swam - Kaori for Palos Verdes, Roxy for Mira Costa - but they did not know each other beyond competitive awareness during those days. It was a mutual friend who upon hearing that Roxy would be attending Cal Poly SLO, practically demanded that she reach out and contact Kaori, who was a year ahead of her and already there. So she did. And that was hands down one of the best decisions she’s made to date! Kaori is the reason Roxy met her future husband-to-be on her very first day at Cal Poly. She is the person Roxy lived with for the next 3.5 years after her freshman year, and then lived with AGAIN after a 2 year gap! Kaori remains an inspiration, confidant, and close friend.

Ferrin Peterson

Bridesmaid

Ferrin and Roxy's friendship is deep rooted in their mutual love for horses. They met during Roxy's second year at Cal Poly during a genetics lecture, and soon became nearly inseparable. When they both resided in SLO, most of their days were spent riding horses, going to the beach, riding bikes cuddling chickens and studying for classes. Ferrin was also a Cal Poly Track star who pole vaulted, impressing everyone with her athleticism and discipline. They graduated Cal Poly SLO together in 2015, and today Ferrin is one of UC Davis's newest Doctor's of Veterinary Medicine! If that weren't impressive enough, she is also an AMAZING jockey! Ferrin is currently spending her time traveling the world riding some of the greatest thoroughbred racehorses there are.

Steele Dan

Ring Bearer

Steele is Jonathan & Roxanne’s two year old blue merle border collie. He was born in Bradley, CA on a working sheep ranch known as Wiebe Ranch. He was sought out by Roxy for his promising breeding, to fulfill her desire to own a border collie in which she can raise and train to herd sheep. Even at his young age, he has proven himself to be an incredibly natural talent when it comes to sheep, and has a work ethic they could have only dreamed of. At home, Steele is truly the sweetest, most willing to please dog they ave ever met. He is incredibly attentive and loving, as well as a huge mommy’s boy. 🐏🐑🐾🐺

Vixey

Flower Child

Vixey is Roxanne & Jonathan’s four year old border collie/queensland heeler mix. She was surrendered to the Santa Barbara County shelter in Santa Maria after breaking her femur falling from a cattle rancher’s truck. She made her way into the Edna Valley Veterinary Clinic’s office where Roxy works, as the doctor there is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon who will fix broken shelter animals so that they can heal and be rehomed. As soon as Roxy laid eyes on her, she new she was special. She went home and talked nonstop about ‘the little red cattle dog at work’ until Jon suggested she bring the dog home for a few days during her recovery. When Roxy brought her home Jon said ‘she looks like a fox!’ and the rest is history. Her daddy is her most favorite person in the world. 🐾🦊

Maggie Harmse

Flower Girl

Maggie is the daughter of Jon's older brother Andre, and his wife Besty. Turning 5 this year, Maggie is filled with lots of spunk and laughter! She loves to bake with her Oma (grandma), loves her big dog Candy the labradoodle, and recently took on the responsibility of being a big sister to Evie!

Grace Willman

Flower Girl

Grace, or "Goose" as she is fondly referred to by most of Roxy's family, is the daughter of Aunt Sandra and Uncle Brent. Another spunky and lively gal, Grace is 7 years old and loves animals, soccer and basketball. She traveled from Northern California with her family to be an adorable part of Roxy and Jon's big day!

Andre Harmse

Best Man

Being the best man comes with a just few responsibilities and Jon has complete confidence that Andre will be up for the task. He might even eclipse Jon's amazing performance as best man at Andre's own wedding. We'll just keep the rings under lock down until the right moment ;] Having an older brother like Andre can be hard sometimes. Someone who excels both athletically as well as in school can be a hard path to follow, but Andre has never been about making himself better by putting someone else down. Jon and Andre enjoyed competing as well as collaborating together growing up and it will only be fitting to have him standing right beside Jon on the biggest day of his life.

Scott Kolofer

Groomsman

Scott and Jon met on the Triathlon team at Cal Poly, but at that time, Scott was one of the best triathletes on the team and Jon was just recovering from his accident and nowhere near the sharp end. The cool thing about Scott is that it doesn't matter what your abilities are or where you came from, what matters is what type of person you are. He is always looking for the good in people and trying to find out how he can help them. Over time their friendship has only grown stronger, not just personally, but professionally as well. When Scott returned last year from Chiropractic school, they bonded over their shared love of body work and helping people achieve their physical and athletic goals. There was never any doubt that Jon wanted Scott to be there as one of his groomsman.

Richard Smith

Groomsman

Richard and Jon have known each other for quite some time.. While in college Jon knew of Richard, but didn't really get to know him till after college when Jon started racing more triathlons and would rely on Richard's sports drink company, Fluid, to propel him to success. As they became better friends, Jon realized just how much of a positive and genuine person Richard is. He is one of Jon's biggest role models and someone that he can always go to for support and advice. One that is always willing to make time for you and give you his utmost attention even when his own life is super busy. Richard introduced Jon to massages and encouraged him to go through the training himself. He has forever left his mark on Jon's life and Jon is honored to have him by his side on this special day.

Troy Smith

Groomsman

Troy defines the college years of Jon's life. From a random craigslist post to becoming one of Jon's best and most influential friends, it's been an awesome journey. This was the time when they both got heavily into motorcycles. From weekend canyon carving, to track days, to motogp corner working, you could bet there were many a nights spent tinkering with, fixing and upgrading bikes in the garage. Troy's love for things with engines that go fast was infectious. They would frequently wake up super early on a Sunday to watch Formula 1, only to fall asleep a third of the way through the race. Jon and Troy were partners in crime during those years and Jon's groomsman's list wouldn't be complete without him.

Josh Brockett

Groomsman

Josh and Jon were the original weekend warriors. During the week he would be in the neighboring town of Reedley, but on the weekends would come to his mom's house, which was a block down from Jon's house and they would spend the whole weekend together. It could be swimming in his pool, street hockey in front of his house, shooting off rockets, or playing computer games; you name it they would do it. As they got into high school they both got more into swimming and water polo and enjoyed the friendly rivalry on competing teams. Josh is one of Jon's oldest and best friends and it's only fitting to have him there on this monumental day in Jon's life.

Ryan Rager

Groomsman

Ryan and Jon were pretty inseparable in high school. From class and clubs, to choir and sports teams, they seemed to do it all together. They spent many nights going to swim meets and water polo matches, and weekends going to choir trips all over California as well as across the country. He is probably the one guy that will always come to mind when Jon thinks back on high school. Ryan's energy and good nature would make whatever you were doing that much more relaxed and fun. Even though the two have lost touch a bit and haven't seen each other in a while, Jon knows the years will just melt away when they can finally get together and it will be like no time has passed at all.
