Carrie and Tyler first met during the summer of 2014 while they were both working at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Tyler was a fresh out of college lighting intern and Carrie was a 19 year old carpentry intern. Their paths didn't cross too much that summer, because while Carrie had a huge crush on Tyler, she was way too nervous to talk to him. Tyler tells stories of trying to talk to her that summer and her ignoring him, and although she doesn't remember that, nothing about that shocks her at all. That summer ended and they both went their separate ways, Tyler to NYC and Carrie back to Charleston. The following summer, they both returned to Williamstown as staff, and because of that had more reasons to talk to each other. Although the summer started off similar to that of 2014, throughout the summer, they got friendlier with each other and formed a connection, though at the end of the summer, they both went their separate ways again and didn't talk for months.
Fast forward to Christmas of 2015, Carrie was home in Tampa with her family, and Tyler's name popped up on her phone wishing her a Merry Christmas (yes, Tyler who she had spoken to only one other time since they left Williamstown). They texted back and forth a bit, before again going on their way to celebrate Christmas with their families. A few months later, the most random text came through on Carrie's phone. Tyler was travelling for work and wanted to know if he could fly through Charleston for a few days and stay with Carrie. She freaked out a little (Ok. A lot.) and then said yes! He stayed for a few days and on their first night together, she took him to her favorite taco place. She ordered her margarita, and he, nervously and not hearing what she ordered, just asked for the same. So they spent the night eating nachos and sipping strawberry margaritas with sugar on the rims, talking about everything from their families and upbringing to Friends (which Carrie then binged for the first time to have something to talk to him about). The rest of the visit was spent exploring Charleston and using Tyler's rental car to go on a road trip to nowhere, which ended watching the sunset at Isle of Palms. Tyler visited Carrie one more time in Charleston on his way home from a work trip, and then had to go to Spain for work for a month. The plan was for him to come to Charleston one more time before she graduated for an Alabama Shakes concert, a band they had bonded over loving. While in Spain, his phone was stolen, yet through Facebook messaging and a burner phone, still managed to have flowers delivered to Carrie's apartment on the day of her senior capstone presentation. Tyler arrived in Charleston for the concert on April 23, 2016, and before they went to the concert, Tyler looked at Carrie and bluntly said, "I've been calling you my girlfriend when I talk about you to people. Is that ok?" And the rest is history...
Carrie and Tyler had made plans to go to brunch with their friends, Chelsea and Alonzo, on November 14, 2021. Chelsea had texted saying that she hadn't been to brunch in a while and wanted to get dressed up. Carrie, never passing up a good chance to dress up, went all out- corduroy skirt, knee high boots, a long wool coat, and she even curled her hair. They had a wonderful brunch at a Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg and then after, started to walk to Davey's Ice Cream, Carrie and Tyler's favorite place to grab a sweet treat. Remember though, Carrie was wearing knee high boots that weren't the most comfortable, so she did her fair share of complaining on the way there. When they got to the block that Davey's is on, Alonzo pulled out his camera and started taking photos of the street, but being a photographer, Carrie thought nothing of it. Carrie was a few steps ahead of Tyler, and when she almost got to the corner of the block she heard her name, and when she turned around, she saw Tyler down on one knee. Naturally, she yelled out "What the f***" and then ran over to him and cried and laughed a lot. And then remembered to say "YES!" to which he asked her to "Walk to Davey's with [him]." But it doesn't end there!!! Because Tyler is a master planner, and when they turned the corner to get their celebratory ice cream, all of their closest friends were there waiting to celebrate with them (scroll down for photos)! Carrie was so overwhelmed, that they never ended up getting ice cream, but instead went to a local biergarten to celebrate for the rest of the night with their friends. --- We are so excited to get married in front of all of you, our friends and family, on April 22, 2023. That weekend will forever remain important to us, because our wedding date is one day shy of our seven year anniversary, one day shy of the Alabama Shakes concert, the day that, unbeknownst to us, would be the beginning of the rest of our lives.
