We met on a fall day in 2015. It was a weekend full of singing and it was clear that we enjoyed some of the things: music, hiking, travel, adventure. Steph made an impression; she was chairperson for the singing, she organized a hike, and she was staying with a whole bunch of friends who had come from all over to sing and visit for the weekend. After that, it would take a while to get to know each other. We saw each other about once a month in Boulder for the local singing. Then we started going on the same singing trips: Seattle, Atlanta, Albuquerque. These were whirlwind weekends spent catching up with friends, meeting new folks, and being on the road together. In late 2016, Steph posed a question. “A bunch of us are going to Ireland, are you coming?” The answer was obvious. Everywhere we went kindled the imagination: castles, tombs, and the rugged coast. We had in common a thirst for knowledge and love for being with people. For the first three years, it seemed we had found a dependable friend in one another. The same kinds of things evoked our interest in the world, and who wouldn’t feel lucky to have such a friend? We thought it would stay that way, too. Little by little, we saw each other in a new light. During a singing school we taught together in October 2018, an older gentleman approached Stephanie and mentioned how much he enjoyed the event she and her husband had put on. She laughed and corrected him; we were not married. Dave came to study at Steph’s house one weekend after starting classes at CU Boulder. He insisted that Steph should go swing dancing on her birthday. We showed up to friends’ events together. During spring break in 2019, we spent a whole day having lunch, going for a walk around Denver, singing, and watching West Side Story. That was the first day we discussed being together. Now we are getting married!

David graduated with his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado in May 2022. He recently started full time work with Clanton and Associates in Gunbarrel, CO. Stephanie completed her 10th year as an elementary school music educator with the Boulder Valley School District in May 2022. She continues to be passionate about teaching her studio of private ukulele, guitar, piano, and voice students. We are looking forward to doing more traveling, singing, and house projects as the pandemic (hopefully) winds down. We might even get a cat someday!
