Our Story

We met in 2016 at Fibbar MaGees through our friends Rachel and Rob. The first thing we really remember is someone saying something ridiculous, us locking eyes across the table, and both having the exact same subtle look: “WTF?” That little “are you seeing what I’m seeing?” look became one of our things long before we ever dated. And honestly, we did not meet and fall instantly in love. We became friends — solid, easy friends. The kind of friends who would see each other a couple times a year, pick right back up, laugh a lot, and then go back to our separate lives. We were both in other relationships during those years, so there was never anything more to it — just two people who genuinely liked each other and somehow always seemed to be on the same page. Life had us on parallel paths. Shortly after we met, Robert moved to Tokyo, and when he came back to visit, we kept crossing paths at gatherings with friends. Then 2020 happened, and like everyone else, life got smaller for a while. In 2021, we saw each other again at Rachel and Rob’s engagement party in the park. Because of COVID protocols, we were paired up for a “Who Knows the Couple Best?” game — and we won, obviously. That day confirmed two things: we are both very competitive, and we make a surprisingly good team. Then in 2023, we went to San Francisco for the annual Pride Parade. Somewhere in the middle of the joy, glitter, music, and city energy, something shifted. What had always been a fun and easy friendship suddenly felt like it might be something more. For the first time, the timing was right, and our parallel paths finally converged. After that, things just felt natural. Robert won over Guster — Sara’s mini Australian Shepherd and arguably the most important approval needed — and our lives started fitting together in the easiest way. Cooking, hosting parties, growing plants, wine nights, long walks with Gus, laughing at the same things, and that same knowing look from Fibbar MaGees all became part of our everyday life. Less than a year later, we were living together. Two and a half years after we started dating, we were engaged. The best part? We’re still those two friends who catch each other’s eye and just get it. Our story was built slowly, honestly, and on a foundation of real friendship. We can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with you in Paso Robles — surrounded by vineyards, wine, and the people we love most. 🤍🍷
