Hotel
Comfortable accommodations but in a more commercial part of Middlebury, so not walkable to all of the shops and restaurants (more than a mile away). Across the street from Hannaford, TJ Maxx and next to Walgreen’s.
Hotel
Sweet hotel (especially the historic main inn). Also in town but a couple of blocks from the center. If you don’t stay here you can still check out Fancy Fridays at the bar, 5-8 p.m. cocktails or go to Jessica’s for dinner or breakfast. Julia stayed here on her first ever night in Middlebury!
Flight
Burlington is the closest airport. The major car rental agencies are based here. Be sure to check hours and schedules.

Train
Daily Service between New York City and Burlington, Vermont, by way of Albany. The train arrives at the Amtrak station in downtown Middlebury each evening from New York and is walkable to the Middlebury Inn or Swift House Inn. There is one train arriving each day at about 8:45 p.m. and one departing each day around 10:45 a.m., requiring an overnight stay. The trip is about 6 hours with wifi and a cafe car.
Travel Note
We recommend you arrive in daylight. The last hour of the drive from southern points, after you exit I-89, takes you over two mountain passes, and you’ll lose cell service for much of it. The ride is pretty in the fall but the road is bumpy and curvy. You can avoid the first mountain pass by taking a left onto Route 107 immediately before downtown Bethel. Follow GPS once it reorients - only 5 minutes longer.
