We met in the University of Washington Master of Taxation program. He was a Dawg his whole life, I was a Coug reluctantly setting foot in "enemy territory" but we both decided to pursue a career in taxes. Each of us found the courseload a bit challenging and reached out to the same classmate for help which is how our study group with Evan (our officiant) began. The hours we spent studying helped us learn about taxes and we also learned about each other. We learned we both had a passion for reality television, the show Friends and Seattle Sports teams, that we both were close to our families and loved a fun night out at the bar with our friends. Despite the rivalry, we decided it was worth a shot!
We graduated and began our careers, went to several baseball games and football games, enjoyed the bars and restaurants in our neighborhoods, and enjoyed traveling to new places together. Then the pandemic hit and like so many 20-somethings we got a puppy, Berklee, binged several Reality TV shows on Netflix and found creative ways to spend time with our friends while social distancing. Once the world opened back up we continued to travel, moved in together and discovered our love for new things like hosting BBQs on our roof, making homemade craft cocktails and curling up to watch Sixty Minutes on a Sunday Night. Then, eventually... Nick proposed.
We bonded over our love of Friends, so it was only fitting that our proposal was stripped right out of an episode. Just as Monica surprised Chandler in their living room full of Candles, I came down the stairs turned the corner and found Nick standing in our living room surrounded by (LED) candles. And the surprises continued, that night we had family and friends join us on our roof for an engagement party!
