During college while attending Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri Christopher and Erika crossed paths. It was in Histology class they shared a microscope as lab partners. A friendship developed as class progressed and they started to hang out outside of class. Chris would go to the bar Erika worked at and Erika would invite him out around town. They became close friends that could confide in one another. It was Cinco de Mayo of 2016 when that friendship shifted into a new phase. Erika took a risk and told Chris how she felt. Chris reciprocated Erika’s feelings, but they became awkward around eachother. They continued to hangout as friends and went to a few dinners before Chris had to go back home to California. It was the night before Chris left that he asked Erika to date and try long distance. They agreed that starting a relationship with 1,500 miles between them would be difficult, but wanted to try. For a year and a half they made it work through the many visits and Facetime dates. It was April, 2017 when Erika moved to Bakersfield, California to live in the Kapua Suite with Chris and his family. They overcame the many hurdles that come with newly living together and then moved across the country back to Omaha, Nebraska where they currently reside. After four and a half years exactly, Christopher finally proposed to Erika at Four Lanterns Winery in Paso Robles, California during a visit to see family. She accepted his proposal and exclaimed, “Finally!”
