Amil was celebrating his 29th birthday in Tampa with his guy friends who also happened to be with a group of girl friends. Within that group of girls was my childhood best friend, Felicia Horton. I remember like it was yesterday...I was out eating with Kim Cobbs when a text came through my phone saying, “I met a nice guy while in Tampa and he is from Richmond. I gave him your phone number so make sure you answer.” I read that and was sooo angry because she had given out my number several times before. I let Felicia know that I was not happy about her giving out my number, but she insisted that he was going to call and I’ll quote, “You’ll thank me later.” Let’s fast forward..Amil was brave enough to reach out to me and we started talking through text. He asked me out on a date, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I was going to see him again because he didn’t seem interested. Little did I know, he was interested and asked me out on a second date. The second date turned into a third date where we met at a playground for a game of basketball. On that day, we both opened up about our lives, our goals, and what we wanted our future to be like. This was the moment when we knew that we were going to be inseparable. Let me add to this story that I beat Amil in basketball that day and we had a bet that the loser had to bake the other person a cake. Amil keep his word and showed up to my apartment with a cake that he had baked....the icing was like a glazed donut as he didn’t let the cake cool before he put the icing on lol! I knew then that I had a man that keep his word. Looking back, we realize how God orchestrated this whole thing, and we are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together.
