How We Met

10/30/13

Becca had just finished a UX Design course at General Assembly and was on "funemployment" for another week before starting her new job. So, fortuitously, she joined some friends at the last minute for a Pretty Lights concert at Roseland Ballroom. At the show, which was standing room only, she saw Jacob in the crowd and thought he looked familiar-ish (read: he caught her eye). She got distracted when her friends gained access to the VIP section and they scoped out the scene. But, after coming back to general admission, she saw that handsome face in the same spot as he was before. Having worked up enough liquid courage to approach him, Becca's intro line was "what's your last name?" as though Jacob would know the backstory in her mind... he didn't, but it was enough to get the convo started. There was an immediate connection - they got late-night pizza (which proved to be a recurring theme of the relationship) and walked around the city for the rest of the night. Fast-forward five years, Jacob is now a UX Designer at General Assembly. Somehow, it all feels meant to be!

The Proposal

10/6/18

There were surprises left and right. The day started out with a wine tasting tour in the West Village - Jacob had Becca believe they were going in place of another couple, but he had booked it long before. He also let Becca think it was her idea to go out to dinner afterwards, but he had a reservation set for weeks! They dined at Eataly's rooftop restaurant, where they had their first date five years earlier, and Becca commented how great their table was (which Jacob specifically chose ahead of time!). At dinner, Jacob played it cool, but when the waiter prematurely brought over some "extra champagne" he knew the moment had come. He took Becca's hands, told her how much she meant to him, got on his knee and proposed to a completely surprised Becca. The surprises continued as their families snuck up to another table in the restaurant (that Jacob strategically reserved) so they could all celebrate together. To cap it off, Jacob's sister Elena casually suggested they take the party to a nearby bar - when they arrived Becca was stunned to see their close friends already there!
