Shane Nelsen

Man of Honor

I can't help but fondly remember visiting Emily's yearbook class during my free periods in high school to just chat and hang out. Since then Daniel has also become a great friend and I always enjoy my time with the two of them. Excited & happy for them!

I am Emily’s cousin and favorite family talent show co-star! I have many fond memories of spending summers with Emily in South Haven, Michigan on family vacations, eating a normal amount of ice cream at Sherman’s Dairy Bar, and being bossed around by her other cousin, Laura (see bio for evidence). I’m very excited to celebrate Emily and Daniel, and to welcome Daniel into the family (on the condition he keeps up at Sherman’s).

I've had the pleasure of knowing Daniel since high school. He has always been sweet and wholesome, and his intelligence has always left me in awe. It wasn't until a few years ago that I truly got to know him, and I'm so grateful that I did. In that time, Daniel and Emily have become family to me. We've shared countless memorable moments, from Daniel's delicious homemade pizza to our shared love of watching bad movies, snack time, amazing trips to conventions and so many adventures. My favorites have been that weird House on the Rock, Door County, and South Haven. Emily is an amazing friend who always makes me laugh and feel comfortable being myself. She has a heart of gold, a quick wit, and a sweet tooth that I adore. I'm lucky to have her in my life and cherish our friendship. With both of them I have loved fruit picking, escape rooms, and even the haunted house. We've bonded over our love of food and have enjoyed some amazing meals together. I cherish all of these memories and am so grateful to have you both in my life. I'm thrilled about this new chapter in your lives, even though you've practically been a married couple for years. I can't wait to see all of the adventures that the future holds for you two. Congratulations on your wedding, and know that I'll be cheering you on every step of the way.

I am Emily’s oldest cousin on her mom’s side, and I’ve known Emily all her life! Growing up, we spent summers in South Haven where I was famous for bossing around all the sisters/cousins and taking charge as director of the the annual “South Haven show” that we would put on for our parents. I promise to try to be less bossy at this particular family occasion (Emily’s wedding!) — but no guarantees!

I’m Daniels sister and I first met Emily when they were at U of I 12 whole years ago!! It’s been great spending time with them over the past several years and I’m excited for a lifetime of Emily supporting my dessert addictions. I can’t wait to celebrate the two of them and finally have a sister in my family! Most looking forward to seeing Daniel on the dance floor for the first time in 20 years. Congrats!!

Co-Best Man

Daniel has been one of my closest friends since middle school, and I've had the pleasure of being his roommate off and on for five years. I met Emily freshman year of college when she and Daniel first started dating, and she has since become a treasured friend too. We've spent a ton of time together over the years, and I can always count on them to drag me out of my house to do things. Whether it's a BTS event, escape room, or a weekend trip, they always have some new adventure to take me on. I'm so happy for the two of them and look forward to helping them celebrate in August!

Shortly after Daniel moved to Highland Park, he started attending Sherwood Elementary school and it was there where we first became friends. We were in the same first grade class and almost immediately we began making mischief together. Over twenty years later, even after attending different universities and at times being many states apart, we continue to remain the best of friends. In the years that Emily and Daniel have been together, Emily has become a dear friend of mine; one who makes me laugh even when she’s helplessly crying from the sight of a red panda. I’ve been fortunate enough to accompany Emily and Daniel on a handful of adventures, and I feel honored now to witness them as they embark on their latest adventure into the next stage of their lives together as they become newlyweds. Mazel tov and cannot wait to see you both again soon!

The first time I met Daniel and Emily was during our freshman year in college where we were neighbors in our co-ed dorm. I was there when they first met and I could see sparks flying. By being roommates with Daniel, I was able to see a different side of him and as the years have moved on, I’ve seen him grow to be this positive role model of a man that he is today. I still feel close to both of them through our Discord adventures even though we are states apart. Over the years I’ve gotten to see them grow stronger and more vibrant as a couple. I am so excited to celebrate their marriage in August!

I honestly can't remember when I first met Daniel, but our friendship was definitely forged through the gauntlet of high school. We were fortunate enough to have many good times, fun adventures, and some dumb moments with a bit of light mischief sprinkled here and there. Even though we basically lived on opposite sides of the country for the past decade or so, having these shared experiences from our formative years allowed us to stay close as "adults." And no matter what, I always knew that when I visited Chicago I could always count on Daniel to make time to hang out and catch-up, even if it was just a quick bite to eat or a board game. It's through these visits that I also started to get to know Emily, and now after finally moving back to Chicago I feel like I'm constantly learning new awesome stuff about her all the time. Happy for you Daniel & Emily, and can't wait to celebrate the big day in August!

Daniel and I have the unspoken bond of going through the CS @ Illinois trenches together. We would always coordinate to take the same classes, partner on homework assignments together even when we weren't supposed to, get the same grade as the other on every exam (only sometimes a good thing), and we even lived together. Now that we're older and way more mature, we spend our days playing online video games together (only sometimes angrily). I'm so happy that one of my best lifelong friends found such an amazing partner in Emily, and that he was able to use his level 99 Cunning, level 87 Cooking, and level 97 Agility to convince her to marry him.

After four years of talking in Discord a few times a week, I finally met Daniel and Emily in person. While I visited Chicago, they let me stay at their home and showed me around town. I already knew they were good people, but learned they were gracious hosts and wonderful guides to the Windy City (I touched the Bean)!

I don't honestly remember if I met Emily or Daniel first but I remember spending a lot of time on the 7th floor of Illini Tower with them in our freshman year of college. Their wedding has been a long time coming and I am excited to be there this August.

I met Emily in high school and remember the countless hours we spent playing everything from Smash Bros to Just Dance at her place. I suspect that half of the reason Emily keeps me around is because my birthday corresponds to the fictional date of her favorite game, Until Dawn. I'm so excited to be part of Emily and Daniel's wedding and see them start this next chapter of life together.
