Even though we grew up 5 minutes away from each other, we didn't meet until September of 2017. Fay was home for a break from nursing school when she decided to stop into the Cranston Panera for lunch. When it came time to pay, she dropped her credit card on the floor (classic Fay being clumsy) and some guy (cue: Nick) picked it up for her. After chatting while waiting for their food, we found out that we actually briefly went to high school together and were both from Cranston. After getting their food, they went their separate ways and didn't think much of it. After a few hours, Fay logged onto Facebook and saw a message from Nick. After chatting awhile, they decided to meet for dinner where Ariana (Fay's MOH) drove by the restaurant 15 times just to make sure Nick was a good guy.
In March 2019, we booked our trip to Hawaii with Fay's parents. Little to Fay's knowledge, after booking this trip, Nick was determined he wanted to propose in Maui. Fay being the type A planner that she is had an entire itinerary planned out for their 10-day stay. Fay's mom told her she wanted to book a reservation at a restaurant in Maui that supposedly had the best sunsets on the island and Fay obliged since she was too busy with school and work to worry about it. Fast forward to early afternoon of Thursday, August 22nd. We were by the beach in Maui and Fay looked at Nick and said, "I wonder if my mom actually made that reservation. Maybe I should call just to make sure." Nick told Fay it was fine and not to worry (while silently freaking out that she almost ruined the entire proposal). We got to the restaurant early to see the sunset before dinner. Fay's parents wanted to go over near the grass where it specifically said: "do not trespass." Fay being the rule-follower that she is, wanted to go to the nearby public beach, but after some stern talking to her, she reluctantly obliged. Fay's parents offered to take photos of Fay and Nick as the sun was setting. Nick then looked at Fay to which Fay replied "the camera is over there..." Nick dropped down on one knee and asked Fay to marry him. After lots of crying (obviously) and many "no this can't be happening", she said "YES!" Come to find out, Nick had planned the entire proposal. He researched Maui, made the reservation himself, and picked the most beautiful location to start their lives together! See you in Newport!
