How we met

August 24, 2018

Miranda's Version As a Hospice Nurse I'm on call at all hours of the night. Around 3am I am rushing to one of my facilities and I see a fire truck in the parking lot. This means 911 had been called which is not the protocol for my patients. I'm already in a worried mood AND NOW I must deal with first responders. Well there he was.. tall and handsome but he was taking care of MY patient. I very bluntly told him to get away from my patient that she was in my hospice care. Did I mention he was good looking? I on the other hand was not cute at all and had my "all business face" on! After a few head butts, I got my way. Shortly after he walked back in the room and apologized so sweetly, he asked me for my number.. for his report. The next day .. guess who I got a text from.. nothing to do with a report. Mr. Smooth was asking me out on a date!! I had to say yes because he really got my attention! I was smiling and had butterflies from the moment he sent that text... I could not wait for our date! Zane's Version As a Firefighter/Paramedic, it was nothing abnormal when the alarm rang around 0300 for a medical call. We hustled to the truck and rushed to the scene. As I began to approach the patient, I see a frazzled nurse in blue scrubs rushing down the hallway right towards me. She did not look happy, but I couldn’t resist grinning. It felt like time stood still as soon as I laid eyes on her. She was very blunt and did not waste any time letting us know that this was HER patient. Although she appeared hard headed and stubborn I could see right through the hard complex. I could see her heart and it was full of compassion and authenticity. Even though she rushed me out of the room, I quickly realized I had to do something. I ended up going back and asking her for her phone number stating that it was “just for my report.” The next day I could not stop thinking about her, so I took a chance and sent her a text. Not too many 3 am calls make a lasting impact but this one did!

The Proposal

"199 is my badge number...I can explain the Mrs."

After spending a wonderful Christmas with my family, Zane and I headed home on Christmas Eve 2018. During the entire three hour drive Zane was super nervous and extremely quiet. I had no idea why and was a little worried since this was so unlike him. Once home we had our very first little Christmas before we both had to go to work (life of a first responder/healthcare worker). We were so excited to open the special gifts we had for each other. Zane handed me a pink jewelry holder I had been asking for and I saw something shiny inside. I quickly opened it and found the prettiest James Avery charm that had the firefighter symbol. On the back of the charm he had engraved " Mrs. 199 ". Included was a little note that said " 199 is my badge number.....I can explain the Mrs. part ". When I looked up, a little confused, Zane was on one knee holding the most beautiful engagement ring. He told me that he would not want to do life with anyone else and asked if I would make him the happiest man alive by becoming his wife. OF COURSE, I SAID YES!! I cannot wait to marry the most thoughtful, sweetest and caring man I have ever known!! I cannot do this life without you Zane Colton Faske and cannot wait to be your wife!!
