Faris and Olivia's story began six years ago in Washington DC, where they met by chance one evening downtown. They briefly bonded over the fact that Olivia's sister and also her best friend had previously worked at his restaurant. They agreed to take a selfie and send it to Olivia's sister. After smiling for the camera and sending the photo off to Rachel they then parted ways, unaware that their paths would cross again two years later. Olivia and Faris did not speak again until the summer of 2020. Olivia had temporarily fled New York City during the pandemic and was spending more time with her family in DC. They reconnected during her final weekend before returning to NYC and they went on their first date at the only restaurant they could find that was open on a Monday night during COVID. The first time Faris visited Olivia in New York, she prepared a carefully curated a list of activities for them to enjoy in a city that was still very much shut down. This included trips to Washington Square Park, Restoration Hardware, and playing with puppies at a pet store in Chelsea. Their relationship overcame the distance for the next 3 years, with frequent trips to visit one another along the way in spite of the fact that Faris struggled to fit inside Olivia's tiny apartment. Inevitably, they both decided this was the "real deal" and they needed to officially move in together, so they finalized arrangements for Olivia to move back down to the DC area in September 2023. The weekend that Olivia was set to move back to live with Faris marked the next step in their relationship. In a nod to their beginnings, Faris chose Washington Square Park as the setting to propose to Olivia right before she embarked on her journey back to DC. Olivia said "yes" (of course!) and they have really enjoyed being in the same city and building their life together.
