If you're looking for a hotel, I would recommend the Holiday Inn (see Travel page) because it is within walking distance to Chateau Briand. Otherwise, the Hyatt Place is a great second choice. We have a block of rooms at the Hyatt Place and it’s discounted. The info for booking is on the Travel page.
No, the Nikkah is completely optional. It is a short Islamic marriage ceremony that will take place at the ICLI mosque in Westbury, NY. We know two events on the same day may be a little inconvenient so we completely understand if you cannot make the ceremony. But we look forward to seeing you at the reception!
Everyone's hardest decision! Of course you are welcome to wear what you feel comfortable in. For those that need a little wardrobe help, here's our recommendation. For the men, wear a suit to both the Nikkah and Reception. If you'd like to wear something Indian for the Nikkah, wear an Indian piece over your suit pants and shirt and then switch into the suit jacket for the Reception. That was easy! For the ladies, it's a little harder. If you're attending the Nikkah and have somewhere to change in between the events, then go for an Indian outfit for the Nikkah and an American dress for the Reception. If that option is too hard, I recommend wearing a long American dress with a jacket/shawl to cover and a head scarf. That way you can easily take it off for the Reception. I wouldn't go too crazy on the Indian outfit since the ceremony is only about an hour (wear something you already have). Hope this helps!
