Spending 2-3 days in the capital of Hungary is probably enough to see the main attractions. Must see: - Parliament - Matthias Church and Buda Castle (here you find one of the best views to the city) - Chain Bridge - Gellert Hill - Basilica - Heroes Square and Vajdahunyad Castle The city is famous of its thermal baths - it's worth spending a few hours in one of the below: - Biggest and most touristic one is Szechenyi (both inside and outdoor pools) - Prettiest one (in my opinion) is Szent Gellert. It looks very beautiful inside and it got outside pool area with great view. - If you want to enjoy the view of the city from a rooftop jacuzzi you must visit Rudas bath. Restaurants and bars (most places will need to be booked in advance): - Szimpla - 360 Bar (rooftop bar) - 'Gozsdu Udvar' with lots of restaurants and bars - High Note Skybar (rooftop bar/restaurant) - Central Market Hall (close to Liberty Bridge) - Zeller Bistro - Hungarikum Bisztro
If you want to explore places outside of Budapest, here we recommend you a couple of smaller towns and attractions worth checking out: - Szentendre: This little village is close to Budapest, it has a very pretty main square with a short walk to the Danube river where you can enjoy a traditional Gulash soup or 'Lángos'. - Visegrád: a small castle town in Pest County. It's located in the Danube Bend. Visegrád Citadel is a must-see there. - Dobogókő: a popular tourist area, there are hiking possibilities to Prédikálószék, Rám-szakadék, and Árpádvár - Royal Palace of Gödöllő: it's an imperial and royal Hungarian palace, famous for being a favorite place of Queen Elisabeth of Hungary. - Budakeszi Wildlife Park: Family-oriented safari park near to the city, with bears, wolves & lynx, plus friendly animals for kids. - Vácrátót Botanic Garden: a nice botanical garden close to the city - Lake Velence & area: Lot's of great beaches especially around Gárdony.
Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and many Hungarians and tourists fell in love with this area. It is approximately halfway from Budapest to Nagykanizsa, so we really encourage you to stop there and look around. Nagykanizsa will be the destination of our wedding. It's a smaller city in Hungary but the city and its area offer a lot to do in the days you will spend here. A couple of recommendations from us: - Visit Zalakaros city: It's approximately 20 minutes by car from Nagykanizsa. Very famous for its spas, it has a nice lookout tower at the top of the city, lots of green areas to walk, hike or chill -Look around in Nagykanizsa: hike around Csónakázó lake, take a walk around Miklósfa fishpond, swim in Gyékényes pit lakes, see the city center Some nice restaurants in the area: István Fogadó - Sormás KNYSA - Nagykanizsa Berényi fogadó - Nagyrécse No Sugar Cafe & Bar - Zalakaros
Croatia is easy to visit from the destination of the wedding. Here are some recommendations for you: - Plitvice Lakes National Park is just 50 km from Nagykanizsa and it is a must-see. - Another must-see is Krka National Park where you can see one of the most beautiful waterfalls - Skradinski Buk - in the world. - If you want to swim in the sea, one of the closest cities is Senj, just barely 300 km from Nagykanizsa. However, if you want to spend a little bit more time in Croatia we recommend to stay in either of these cities: Rovinj, Makarska, Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik.
