How to get around?

Answer

Only rent a car if necessary, parking is scarce and expensive ($10-$30 for overnight parking at hotels and all street parking is metered). We recommend taking Uber/Lyft as much as possible. There is also the Portland Streetcar that loops all around the city and can be paid for right on the street.

Check out the "Travel & Places to Stay" page for our recommended hotel choices. We will be staying in the Park Avenue West Condos. We’re hoping our guests will stay with us in Downtown Portland. Downtown is known for it's boutique hotels, “small hotels with big personalities”, with unique features such as; pillow menus, free nightly wine tastings, & craft beer samplings. Downtown is a compact walkable area with over 500 restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Along with TAX FREE shopping.

Is it really illegal to pump your own gas in Portland?

Answer

Yes, how odd is that? The ban on self-service gas stations began in 1949 when the Retail Gasoline Dispensing Safety Act was passed. That law was enacted over concerns that consumers would blow themselves up if allowed to pump their own gas.
