Question

Where is Peaks Island?

Answer

Peaks Island is about three miles off the coast of Portland, ME, accessible only by ferry or private boat (no bridge). Peaks is a part of the city of Portland. Fallon grew up spending parts of each summer on Peaks.

Question

How do we get to Peaks Island on days other than the wedding?

Answer

Casco Bay Lines provides hourly (aprox.) ferry service from the Portland waterfront to Peaks from 5:45AM--11:30PM. Cost is $7, round trip--no paper ticket needed for the ferry back to Portland. https://www.cascobaylines.com/

Question

How will we get from Portland to Peaks for the wedding?

Answer

There will be a charter ferry leaving from Casco Bay Lines at 1:45pm for wedding guests. Arrive at Casco Bay Lines at 1:30 sharp. No tickets needed. Directions will be provided in your hotel rooms, but it is about a five minute walk from the hotels. If you miss the charter, you can take a regular ferry at 2:15 or 3:15, but the wedding is at 2:30, so you'll miss all or part.* As islanders say, "the ferry waits for no one." * Tickets needed for regular ferry rides.

Question

Should we drive our car over for the wedding?

Answer

No. Most likely it will be much more trouble than it is worth to bring your car over to Peaks just for the wedding. On Saturday there are usually long car ferry lines, so you might have to wait a few hours. In addition it is expensive. $85 round trip. We will have a trolley meet the charter ferry so you will not need a car on the island for the day of the wedding. If you are coming to Peaks for longer, see FAQ below.

Question

Where is St. Chistopher's Church on Peaks?

Answer

St. Christopher's is about a five minute walk from the dock where the ferry arrives on Peaks. It is on Central Ave., Peaks. Most guests will be able to walk, but we will have golf carts and the trolley at the ferry to help those who need assistance getting to the church. There is a fairly steep hill, so folks in heels might want to bring a comfier option.

Question

How will we get from the church to the reception?

Answer

Fallon and Liam's reception is at the Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association (aka, "The Club" to islanders), about a mile from the church. Fallon and Liam will have a trolley to bring people from the church to the Club right after the wedding.

Question

How will we get from the reception to the ferry after the wedding?

Answer

Guests will take public ferries back to Portland. Ferries run at 6:00pm, 7:45pm, 8:45pm, 9:45pm, 10:55pm, and 11:55pm from Peaks to Portland. The trolley will run from the Club to the ferry for all of the evening ferries. No tickets needed for return ferry to Portland.

Question

If we are staying on Peaks for a couple days or longer, should we bring our car over?

Answer

Yes. There is little long-term parking in Portland and parking is far more expensive than bringing your car over to the island, which is $85 round trip. The car ferry is run by Casco Bay Lines and usually requires some waiting as there are no reservations. Talk to Fallon or Liam. They can help you negotiate the best times to bring your car over to avoid lines.

Question

What is Portland like?

Answer

Portland is a wonderful small city with one of the best restaurant scenes on the east coast. The hotels and the ferry terminal are in the Old Port section of the city, an area revitalized about 40 years ago. It has cobblestone streets, lots of shopping, many art galleries, and the constant presence of a working waterfront. In short, you will love it.

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

Your wedding invitation will indicate who is invited. The reception venue is strictly limited so unfortunately we cannot accommodate uninvited guests.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Cocktail attire is great! Suits/sport coats and ties, dresses (short, midi, or full length) or dress pants. Please feel free to dress for the weather--it could be quite hot during the day but it will get chillier at night on the water. A sweater or wrap is recommended. The ceremony and the reception are both covered and out of the direct sun. Keep in mind there will be some walking from the boat to the church, so plan your shoes accordingly.

Question

What will the weather be?

Answer

Ah...an interesting question on the Maine coast. August in Maine is usually warm. The reception is at a sailing club, right on the ocean. It is indoors, and there is a large, wrap-around covered porch, so we will will be inside and on the porch no matter the weather. Even if the day is warm, there is a chance the evening will bring a chill. So it is best to bring a shawl, sweater, fleece, or lightweight jacket. If you wear suits or sport coats, that will be sufficient.

Question

Can I bring my children?

Answer

Fallon and Liam are happy to be able to include some of their cousins in the wedding and reception. If your children are invited they will be listed on the invitation. Unfortunately, unless they are explicitly invited, children can not be accommodated.
