Traditional Baci Ceremony The Baci (or Sou Khuan) is a centuries-old Lao ceremony. It is often held and performed for nearly any major life event including weddings, homecomings, births, deaths/funerals, recovering from an illness/surgery, and during Laos/Thai New Year. The ceremony's purpose is used to call back your Spirit/Vital Force to the body to restore harmony, balance, and well-being. It is a deeply spiritual custom aimed at bringing good luck, health, and prosperity. Participants tie a holy blessed white cotton thread around each other's wrists while offering blessings & good wishes to one another. During the ceremony, an elder leads the ceremony by chanting, while participants gather around a Pha Khuan (a flower-decorated tray).
