It’s almost like we were always meant to cross paths but God made sure it didn’t happen until the timing was just right. Looking back, our lives had already been overlapping in quiet ways. Lewis’s older brother dated my sister’s best friend and roommate. My mom knew his family well and even worked with some of his relatives. I was in his aunt’s wedding. We had followed each other on social media for years liking each other’s pictures, reacting to stories but we never actually met or spoke. And here’s the funny part: months before we officially met, I took a screenshot of one of his pictures and thought to myself, “If I ever date a Liberian man… it would be him.” I was strictly going off looks, of course but clearly God had other plans. What I didn’t know at the time was that Lewis had just come out of a relationship about two years earlier, and had been praying very specifically for God to send him his wife. Not long after that prayer, we met. One night, a close friend of mine who was dating Lewis’s sister invited me and my girls out. I already knew Lewis would be there and part of me was curious. When he saw me, the first thing he said was, “Hey, you’re that girl I follow on social media!” From that point on, we didn’t leave each other’s side. We talked the whole night like it was just us in the room. We exchanged numbers, and honestly, we’ve been inseparable ever since. Three months into dating, Lewis told me he was going to marry me one day. I laughed it off but deep down, I think part of me already believed him. Since then, we’ve grown so much together and individually. We’ve supported each other, challenged each other, and kept showing up no matter what. Two years ago, we both graduated Lewis with his master’s, and me with my bachelor’s. And now we’re stepping into this next chapter, side by side. Our story wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t forced.
