The Story

The year was 2009 - Obama had just taken office, Avatar was blowing peoples' minds in theaters, and the Black Eyed Peas were tearing up the charts with their hit single "I Gotta Feeling". It was in this historic year that Matt and Megan met through mutual friends in the town of Austin, TX. After hanging out a few times, the two quickly realized that they shared many interests. One thing led to another, and soon they were dating. After Matt spent a brief stint in Hawaii, the two had moved in together and wound up spending a few more years living in Austin. As their love grew, so did the population and temperature of Austin, until one day they decided that they were ready to move from the city where they had met. After a cross-country road trip, the two landed in the beautiful mountain town of Bend, OR, and decided to start a new life in the Pacific Northwest. Spending their free time hiking, camping, and exploring the beautiful region they live in, the two have made a life for themselves on the North Coast of Oregon.

The Proposal

For Matt's 30th birthday, he and Megan decided to check off one of their bucket list hikes, Abiqua Falls - an out and back hike that brings you to the base of a near 100-foot waterfall framed by a jagged basalt amphitheater. After driving down an old logging road, they arrived at the unmarked trailhead. The "trail" itself was more of a climb, requiring you to lower in to a ravine using a rope to steady yourself. After a lot of struggling, and a few tears, Megan and Matt made it down to the creek that lead to the falls. While basking in the beauty of the thundering waterfall, the two decided to get some pictures of themselves in front of it. After setting the self-timer on the camera, Megan ran back to jump in to frame. Right before the camera snapped a picture, Matt dropped to one knee and popped the question. She said "Yes", which was the best birthday gift he could have gotten. Now that they were engaged, all they had to do was get back up that cliff.
