We met on a year long mission trip to 11 different countries across the globe. We got assigned to sit together on our first flight and talked about our lives back home and hopes for that upcoming year. We really clicked as friends after we found out we were both John Piper fanatics! One night in Costa Rica a group of us went out salsa dancing and after we danced together, we both knew that there could be something more than a friendship between us.

Our first date was in Boston at a Red Sox vs. Yankees baseball game in Fenway Park! We had pretzels and beer for dinner and walked around the city with Nick's family the next morning.

Nicholas: I had planned on proposing at one of our family-friend's private lake. We had gone fishing there before and her brother and I thought it would be a great place to spend the evening fishing, kayaking, and making s'mores. It was a totally ordinary night (otherwise Erika would have smelled that something was going on) and I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted to propose shortly after we arrived so we could spend the rest of the night celebrating but right when we arrived Erika fixed up her pole, threw it in the water and immediately caught a fish. I didn't want her to get her hands dirty so I ran over to take the fish off the hook and quickly threw it back. She casted back out and I signaled to Brandon and his girlfriend Taryn to get ready. I walked over and took the pole out of her hands, got down on one knee, and asked her to spend her life with me. She said yes (:
