Colloca Estate Winery is the wedding venue for Evie and Connor’s big day. The 103-acre estate is home to award-winning wines, some of which you'll get to sample at the wedding. But if you want to taste some more or bring some home, please visit the tasting room.
Check out the beach, the great pond and hike the bluffs - one of Evie's favorite hikes. Want to try snow shoeing on the ungroomed trails - call Murdock's Bicycle and Sports in Oswego to rent snow shoes. There is no admission fee for the State Park in December so its a great time to visit and see Lake Ontario and snow on the beach.
The 1,400-acre county park includes nearly two miles of Lake Ontario shoreline with glacially formed bluffs and scenic vistas of the lake. One of the highlights of the nature center is the great blue heron rookery, located in the beaver-constructed wetland area on the Heron Trail at the park. The rookery, featuring several dozen nests, is located on 60 acres of flooded wetland and there's a small viewing area with benches.
Snow shoeing is a great way to hit the trails at the State Park or Sterling Nature Center. Murdock's in Oswego rents snow shoes. Their hours are: Tuesday-Friday: 10am-6pm, Saturdays 10am-5pm. Call ahead as hours may change over the holiday.
Upstate NY can be a winter wonderland where everything is icy and blue, including the frozen waterfalls. Check out nearby Wolcott Falls at the Mill Street Park. This 50-foot waterfall forms impressive ice structures. And if you're looking for a fun day trip, Carpenter Falls is near the quaint town of Skaneateles.
Enjoy craft beer and cocktails, including whiskey on ice, at this Pub that was opened in 2020 by a Marine Pilot friend of David Blauvelt's (father of the bride) - John Gadjo. And you might just see a picture of David in front of his helicopter, along with the other Fair Haven veterans on the back wall. Semper Fi!
Grab a cup of coffee, breakfast or lunch at the Hardware Cafe & General Store. The Blauvelts are well on their way to three hundred takeout coffees later. Evie also loves their smoothies! And why not pick up a Fair Haven souvenir while you're there.
Breakfast anyone? The Barn at Wildwood is open every day from 7am to Noon.
Upstate New York is apple country where everyone is bundled up in their mittens and coats, and the cider would flow. Check out the Sterling Cidery to sample local ciders.
Pub fare and drinks are served at Brandon's Irish-American Pub.
Fair Haven's only late night bar. Get a drink with the locals and play the juke box.
The Blauvelts have been known to hit the slopes in upstate New York. Bristol Mountain is about an hour and a half from Fair Haven, NY. Bristol offers 1200’ of vertical and 2 high speed quads. And for some Apres Ski fun hit one of the restaurants or breweries in the village of Canandaigua on the north end of the lake.
Fair Haven is known for its amazing sunsets (we've even been written up in National Geographic) and for seeing shooting stars on clear nights. So look up to see stars by the pocketful.
