Ever since Michael and I got together, I’d call him Big. And it wasn’t just because of his size, haha. It was because I was so enamored by him- similar to how Carrie Bradshaw felt about Mr. Big (in my favorite show of all time- Sex and the City). Michael's original plan was to take me to Buddakan. I was supposed to walk into Buddakan, and be greeted by my family and friends, all seated around the large table in the middle of the restaurant (AKA the table Carrie and Mr. Big sat at for their rehearsal dinner). However, due to Covid-19, Michael was unable to book that table. So he decided to create Buddakan for me in his sister and brother-in-law's backyard. And everything was perfect. The table was set up the same way as the restaurant- one big table in the middle of the room, candlelit by the same candles Buddakan has on their table. He had Asian food catered and paired with lychee martinis. For dessert, he bought the most elegant cake, along with Magnolia cupcakes- the same cupcakes Carrie and Miranda ate on a New York City bench while discussing their crushes. The room was filled with our pictures, Sex and the City quotes, a note from Sarah Jessica Parker giving us her blessing and well wishes, Buddhas, customized fortune cookies, and most importantly- our closest friends and family. As I watched the ending scene of Sex and the City: The Movie, my Big, standing behind me, bent down on one knee simultaneously with Mr. Big. This night could only be described as something out of a movie. I was so surprised. I will be forever grateful to have found a love like this. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love. -AG
Michael was one of those guys I knew for so long, that I forgot when I actually met him. I always tell people it was in middle-school... so let's just go with that, haha! My first memory with Michael was on the field of Eastchester Middle School in 2007. He was a little chubby, and I was a pot-bellied teen, with my hair awkwardly swept over half my face. Needless to say, it wasn't our finest moment. But, looking back- that was our moment. That moment sparked a beautiful friendship, which eventually blossomed into an indescribable love. -AG
