We met at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign through the very small black community. Kerry's Story: The first time I saw Hadiya was freshman year. She came by my dorm with a group of her engineering friends to get my roommate to come out to a party. Hadiya stood out from the group as her pretty face and smooth brown-skin complexion immediately caught my eye. Sophomore year, Hadiya and I briefly connected and exchanged numbers, but we did not truly begin our relationship until we reconnected during COVID. After a flurry of Heart emojis, compliments, and even what I considered clever pick up lines in her Instagram DM - we had our first date. After our first date in my backyard with barbecue, smores, and tiny desk concert videos we have not left each other's side. Hadiya's Story: Kerry and I met during a gathering with mutual friends at his fraternity's house on campus during Sophomore year. We started texting back and forth here and there, but it ultimately didn't materialize until later on in life. During the pandemic, we reconnected and started our relationship with lots of laughs, love, and food! For our first date, he BBQ'd a wide variety of food for me at his house and we haven't left each other's side since!
