You won’t want to miss this! 100% worth a visit! Take the time to go between the ceremony and reception as it’s 30min-1hr visit at the site. Open 9am to 5pm daily. Located in Waregem where Evelyne’s Father, Philippe Cras, grew up and is a place that the Cras’s bring all their visitors too. The Flanders Field American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium occupies a 6.2-acre site. Masses of graceful trees and shrubbery frame the burial area and screen it from passing traffic. At the ends of the paths leading to three of the corners of the cemetery are circular retreats, with benches and urns. At this peaceful site rest 368 of our military dead, most of whom gave their lives in liberating the soil of Belgium in World War I. Their headstones are aligned in four symmetrical areas around the white stone chapel that stands in the center of the cemetery.

Half day in Oudenaarde

Half day in Oudenaarde

Oudenaarde, Flanders 9700, Belgium

About a 15min drive, you will find beautiful Oudenaarde well recognized by the “baby bottle” of Oudenaarde (the church’s Bell Tower). The Cras’s visit Oudenraarde often for grocery needs, a vier uurtje (4pm snack time coffee/tea with a crepe/waffle) and some light shopping. Beautiful exhibit of tapestries and a lot of historic culture to explore. There’s a great tourism office that has all the plans and insights to make your visit perfect! In the 11th century, Oudenaarde’s economy flourished, thanks to the proximity of the Scheldt and to the burgeoning, but vibrant cloth and tapestry industry. Churches, cloisters and hospitals were built. Throughout the Middle Ages, the city was one of the staunchest supporters of the counts of Flanders, defending them against insurrections from the South, and even from Ghent. The city became known as the residence of the nobles. It built itself a flagship town hall (built 1526–1537), which we can still admire today, and the St-Walburga church.

Brussels: Atomium (Belgium’s Eiffel Tower & much better than the Eiffel Tower)

Atomium is the symbol of Brussels. The building was designed and constructed on the occasion of the Brussels World’s Fair (1958). With the slogan A world view – a new Humanism, Expo’58 was the first of its kind after the Second World War. This global event itself reflects the aspirations of the age, such as humanism, world peace, a better life thanks to scientific and technological progress. Its design was the responsibility of engineer, André Waterkeyn (1917-2005). The interior of the spheres were realised by the architects André and Jean Polak. The Atomium was not intended to survive beyond Expo ’58. But its unique character and what it already represented at the time meant it was never destroyed
