Oh, how wonderfully God brought Evelina and me together. I had always known of her, but never really knew her. Then, one casual Monday at youth fellowship, she caught my eye with her smile, laughter, and modesty. Later that month, it was her birthday, and I needed a creative way to get through to her. So, I slid up to her and hit her with a one-two punch of charm. "Happy birthday, Evelina! You're one year closer to death." Surprisingly, it worked. It's amazing where confidence can take you. We started talking and I got to know her better. Unfortunately, due to life circumstances, I moved to Florida, and our friendship faded. After five months of not much talking between us, Evelina and her friends came down to visit and were in dire need of a tour guide. Naturally, I volunteered – not because I wanted to be a tour guide, but because I saw my chance to make a grand romantic comeback. We hit it off immediately, and after asking her parents' permission to date for marriage, it went from there. By God's grace, despite living 1,200 miles apart for a year, we were brought together. God is good and has blessed us beyond measure. And that's the story of how Evelina and I defied the odds, distance, and my questionable sense of humor to find love.
