It all began in college, in the heart of Los Angeles, where fate brought Ricardo and Evelia together. If you ask Evelia what first drew her to Ricardo, she might playfully say it was his tattoos. But the truth runs a little deeper. It was the way he gently kissed her forehead instead of her lips on their first date. The way he stayed up late just to make sure she got home safely. From that moment on, the two were nearly inseparable. Evelia even became the unofficial fourth roommate in Ricardo’s apartment. A little over a year later, Ricardo graduated and moved back home to the Bay Area. What followed was a year of long distance, filled with weekend visits, heartfelt phone calls, and a whole lot of flights (Evelia flew more that year than she had in her entire life!). Her old car couldn’t quite handle the 7-hour drive, but love always found a way. That year apart turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Eventually, Evelia made the decision to transfer to San José State University to finish her degree, and more importantly, to begin building a life with Ricardo in the Bay Area.
