Everett saw a video I posted about my testimony regarding mental illness and decided to reach out to tell me how I'd inspired him. I was grateful, but the conversation quickly turned to droll small talk which "allegedly" led me to say "Stay safe out there, friend!" He never lets me live it down! However, we kept seeing each other when I attended his New Jersey young adult Bible study virtually (This was during COVID times) He was very intentional to send me reminders about coming and ensuring I always had the link and felt welcome. He told me that he enjoyed when I came because my energy gave him energy. After a brief misunderstanding with a mutual friend, I was told that Everett had defended me and gone out of his way to mitigate the situation in order to prevent me from experiencing any stress. I was so touched by his intentionality and care that I reached out to thank him. He told me that he thought I was amazing and that he'd secretly had feelings for me since he saw that first video. I was flabbergasted and flattered. He had not let on at all over the years lol. Everett sure can keep a secret. Over time, he continued to endear himself to me by being so sweet and supportive of my career, mental health, and spirituality. He flew down to Georgia to see me. I took him to the aquarium, the botanical gardens, and a place that serves AMAZING peach cobbler. The rest is history!
