Their story starts with a game of Halo and a Pink Floyd concert. Which pretty much sums up the next almost decade of their time together. Cati was at a friend's house bored while watching them play Halo (which is funny given the next nine years were spent playing and watching Halo be played). And Evan was at a Pink Floyd concert with his dad and had plans to go on a family hike the next day. Girl texts boy, boy responds, girl invites herself to go hiking too -- cuz teenagers have no game. And the rest is history. At 4 O’clock in the morning, Cati woke her parents up to ask if she could go on this hike (It’s a really good thing they said yes). After getting to the peak of Old Rag, Evan and Cati got separated from the Momma and Papa Day and spent the next few hours “missing”. They weren’t lost just taking more time to come down the mountain. Park rangers were called, it was a whole thing. From that day on you could probably find Cati on the basement floor of Tom and Salena Day’s house in Reston playing and sidekicking to video games. Funny that still happens most days, they just have a couch now and many cats to snuggle while they do so.
This story actually begins May 1, 2018. After a birthday dinner that was amazing, Evan and Cati went exploring downtown Denver, CO. They found Rock Bottom Brewery and sat on the patio listening to a street performer play very good Saxophone music splitting a bottle of wine. It was calm, perfect, and so sweetly romantic. The day before they were supposed to leave Denver in 2019 they decided to barhop Denver (as you do). Well, they (not so) coincidentally ended up at Rock Bottom again. Evan ordered wine and walked Cati outside to the patio where they sat last year. From there he proposed (full-on one-knee and everything). After asking about 10 times if he was serious, Cati said something along the lines of “dang you, I’m not even cute right now” (running shoes and sweaty) and “of course I say yes”. Well in perfect dorkiness, Cati dumps half her glass of celebratory Champagne down the front of her T-Shirt, cuz she's cool like that.
