40th Street to 125th. That's the distance we walked and talked together on our first date. It began with your typical JSwipe meet up - we had each swiped right, messaged for a bit, and then met for the first time over dinner at a cafe in midtown Manhattan near Evan's office. After the meal we decided to go for a walk and continue our conversation. Just as we were getting to the walkway along the Hudson River Evan said, "So you're from the Philly area? I have some family that lives outside Philly." "Oh yeah? What town?" Sara inquired. "Let me check, I can't remember the town name." Evan whipped out his phone and checked Facebook. "Er...denheim?" Sara's eyes suddenly widened as she stopped in her tracks. Like literally, stopped walking. And exclaimed, "What?! That's the same town where I'm from! What's their last name, maybe I know of them..." Evan told Sara their name. Sure enough, Evan's mom's cousin and her family had a last name that Sara had heard growing up all her life. A beloved family in the neighborhood whose kids went to the same school growing up at the same time as Sara and her sister, and lived just a few blocks from the Weaner family. And thus any nervous first date tension dissolved. They were so amused by this connection. They walked and chatted, continuing up the river path pretty much oblivious to their surroundings (besides the beautiful river on the left...but on the right? Streets and signs? Who cares...). Until they realized that they had kind of been walking a long time. Oops - 125th Street. For anyone familiar with Manhattan on a March evening, that's a pretty far way for a casual walk. It was just the first walk of many. The next big one will be down the aisle!
