The moment Marina decided to study abroad in Utrecht, she went looking for a place to live. On the internet, she found a wonderful place, in the center of town by the Oudegracht in Utrecht. She quickly went to Western Union in Brooklyn and transferred money to this wonderful subletter. But then… It turned out it was a scam! Marina had lost her money and her new apartment! Luckily, she knew somebody from Utrecht who had been her law school classmate in Philadelphia the year before. He was totally fine with Marina staying at his house for a week-or-so while she was looking for an apartment. This old classmate turned out to be Evan’s roommate and this is how they met!
The Utrecht period: In Utrecht, once Marina moved out of Evan’s roommate’s room, they stayed in touch and over time their relationship blossomed. The travel period: After Marina left Utrecht to finish law school in Philadelphia, they traveled to meet each other several times in Paris, Philadelphia, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam etc. The Brooklyn Period: After extensive traveling back-and-forth, Evan decided to finish his Masters in the US and move to Brooklyn. Evan and Marina moved in together and got two cats: Esco and Stormy! One day, Evan and Marina climbed a Fire Tower near Rhineback, NY and on the top of that tower, Evan asked Marina if she would marry him! The Blue period is the period between 1900 and 1904, when Picasso painted essentially monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and blue-green, only occasionally warmed by other colors. These somber works, inspired by Spain but painted in Paris, are now some of his most popular works, although he had difficulty selling them at the time.
