How'd We Get Here?

We met at the University of Maine, where our paths first crossed in an unexpected yet perfect way. Amelia was a Resident Assistant in Somerset Hall, where Evan lived as a freshman. It wasn’t until physics lab the following year that our friendship began. Evan, being a smart electrical engineering student, helped Amelia, a biology major, with her physics homework—and that’s when we really started to get to know each other. By that time, Evan and his friends had moved into an off-campus apartment, and Amelia found herself spending more time there to escape the dorms and the repetitive dining hall food. Little did we know, those cozy nights cooking meals together would mark the beginning of our shared love for cooking—and ultimately, each other. We spent about eight months as friends before we took the leap into dating on August 27, 2020. It felt like the right decision, and from there, our bond grew even stronger. In January 2021, another defining moment in our relationship came when Evan taught Amelia how to ski. It was a big step, especially when Amelia got stuck in a ditch during a family video. Evan had to make a quick decision: should he continue down the path everyone else was following, or should he stop and help? He chose to help, of course, and that support—both in skiing and in life—has been a cornerstone of our relationship, as well as the start of Amelia’s love for skiing. When Amelia decided to begin chiropractic school in Florida, Evan was incredibly supportive, and we had to navigate the challenges of long distance. One of our favorite memories from that time was when Amelia flew back to Maine to surprise Evan the night before his graduation. Evan was totally caught off guard and a bit confused—but he couldn’t have been more excited. It was a moment that perfectly captured our dynamic: full of surprise, joy, and a little bit of chaos. Many nights on FaceTime kept our connection strong, and in the summer of 2022, Evan took a leap of his own by moving to Florida to live with Amelia for her last two years of school. It was a huge step, but one we were both excited to take together. Life in Florida brought us closer as we explored Universal Studios, spent more time cooking together, and shared countless simple moments that made our bond even stronger. Evan has been there for Amelia through every challenge, encouraging her to pursue her aspirations, and Amelia has been Evan’s biggest cheerleader as he worked toward his dream of becoming a home bartender (and a Professional Engineer). Together, we’ve always had each other’s backs. In early summer 2023, Evan took Amelia on her first international vacation, where we explored cities in Italy and Switzerland. Before the trip, Evan bought a little camera for us to use, sparking our love of photography—a hobby we now enjoy together. Amelia thought this would have been the perfect time for Evan to propose, but he was biding his time. Finally, in April 2024, on a quiet beach at sunrise, Evan proposed. It was the perfect moment to start this new chapter of our lives, a chapter we know will be full of love, adventure, and plenty of home-cooked meals. As we prepare to say "I do," we’re filled with gratitude for all the memories we’ve made together. From Maine to Florida, from physics lab to cooking dinner together, every step has brought us closer to this moment, and we can’t wait to continue this journey as husband and wife. We’re so excited to celebrate with all of you! Thank you for being a part of our story.
