In 2016, Alex had an exciting opportunity to take on a travel nursing job and relocate to Houston, TX, where her brother and sister-in-law live. On her first night in Houston, in true "yinzer" fashion, Alex went to a Steelers watch party her brother, Chris, was hosting. Little did she know, the “cute dork” (as referenced in Alex’s text to her friends) who told a silly joke that night would leave a lasting impression. In a following group get-together, Evan mentioned to Alex that his job might take him to Saudi Arabia or Pittsburgh in the future. Evan and Alex remained close friends for the 13 weeks of her Houston assignment. Later that year, Alex moved home, and shortly after, Evan's work relocated him to Pittsburgh as well. Finding themselves in the same city again, they decided to make their relationship official.

Alex and Evan share a love for travel, especially ski trips. After a crazy 2020, Alex, Evan, Chris, and his wife, Anna, planned a New Year’s trip for beautiful Aspen, Colorado. Evan recognized the perfect opportunity to pop the question, asked for the blessing from Alex’s parents, and crafted a plan to ensure Alex never caught wind of the surprise. Evan gave the engagement ring to Chris and Anna, traveling on a separate airline. Crisis arose when Chris and Anna’s flight was delayed by 6 hours, causing them (and the ring) to miss the planned gondola ride to the top of the mountain, and postponing the proposal by a day. The next morning, the group woke up early to hit the slopes, stopping mid-day for a scenic lunch on the mountain top. Taking full advantage of some stunningly beautiful photo opportunities, Evan dropped to one knee and finally popped the question! The timing, the weather, the view and the company created the most perfect and special moment. Everything about the trip and that day was truly amazing and we feel so fortunate to be able to share this exciting time with our family and friends in May of 2022. All of our family and friends have a unique and special place in our love story. We are thrilled to celebrate our love for each other with everyone!
