The first time Ethan saw Heather was in differential equations math class at De Anza. He says it was love at first sight, her blonde hair and big blue eyes. They eventually officially met at an Intervarsity bible study and continued to lead together for the next year until both transferred to UC Davis. After keeping up as friends here and there throughout the first quarter, Ethan started to go to the upperclassman Navigator's bible study that Heather led. This was the beginning of a deeper friendship as Ethan, Heather, and their good friend Joel began to hang out, joke around, and play video games after bible study each week. Slowly, these hangouts extended outside of bible study to spontaneous study sessions. Sometimes, Joel didn't make it to the early study sessions Ethan and Heather suggested, so they ended up at coffee shops together for their one-on-one study sesh. These consisted of studying, but mostly Ethan trying to distract Heather and make her laugh. After spending 4-5 days studying together for finals, and Heather surviving an interesting encounter at poker night, Ethan knew she was a keeper. A few weeks into the spring quarter, and after some unintentional nudging from Heather, Ethan told Heather he thought she was cool and asked if she would go on a date with him. She said yes, and a month later, they went on their first date, getting Ali Baba's burritos and walking through the Davis Farmers Market. From then on, they continued to go on dates until Ethan asked Heather to be his girlfriend at Lake Berryessa, which, a year and 10 months later, would be where Ethan asked her to marry him.
