Look for flights to Xoxocotlán International Airport (OAX). Most likely you will find a flight that first goes to Mexico City (MEX), and then Oaxaca de Juarez is a short one hour flight from there. Arriving to the airport, it is a 15-20 minute taxi ride to the city center. Regular taxi cost from airport is $100 mexican pesos for a shared taxi or $300 mxn for your individual taxi. Note that Oaxaca now has UBER!
It typically only rains one or two days in the month of February in Oaxaca, which is why we chose it for our wedding. The average maximum temperature is 85° and the average minimum is 51°, and it is the month with the most sunshine so bring sunscreen!
We would prefer guests either wear cocktail style attire or traditional Oaxacan dress. In Oaxaca the traditional attire for weddings are dresses with colorful embroidered flowers for women, and a dress shirt called a Guayabera, which is very similar to a white button down. We would love for our international guests to go along with the theme; the dresses can be quite expensive, but luckily Dulce's mother and extended family have quite the collection of traditional dresses, and we can provide one for anyone who would like to wear one. Guayaberas are relatively inexpensive and we will be adding a list of stores in the city that sell them, and we will provide the bandanas and sombreros! There are a few pictures of the Oaxacan traditional wedding attire in the Photos section of this website, so check it out and let us know with your RSVP if you'd like blend in with the locals for the day.

Mexican currency is the Peso, which has ranged between 18-20 pesos to 1 USD over the last few years. We recommend changing money at the airport or before you leave home so you have some local currency on you when you arrive in the city. However, you can use your debit card at any ATM in the city to take out cash - you'll get charged a small exchange fee, but in our experience it's not exorbitant, although we typically take out all the money we'll need for the whole week to minimize the ATM fees. Your hotel, most restaurants, and most stores in the center of Oaxaca will accept credit or debit cards, but street venders and especially taxis do not, so always keep some cash on you!
The downtown area is very walkable, and there are always plenty of taxis you can take. It will be easier to use a tour company for most of the activities outside the city, and they will pick you up from your hotel or residence on the day of the tour. If you would like to rent a car though it is typically very cheap to do so, getting as low as $20 a day. Check with your hotel if there is easy parking or street parking, and as always if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to us!
