Ethan and Emily met in 2021 during Creighton University's School of Occupational Therapy orientation. They were instant friends, going to bars and restaurants with their respective friend groups, and always took time to talk in the library when they should probably have been studying. As their friendship grew, they could be found planning weekend events together for their friends, and enjoying each other's company. One of these said events was a karaoke night; Ethan bought Emily a drink and, when Emily told him she wanted to sing a country song (since that's all she knew), Ethan told her he would sing 'God's Country' by Blake Shelton with her (the only country song he knew). Emily later learned that it was this moment Emily's friends knew Ethan and Emily would someday date. In January 2022, when Ethan and Emily returned from winter break, a back to school class party was held; Ethan and Emily spent half the night talking about the 5 Love Languages (they were both Psychology majors after all); this was another moment their friends later said they knew Ethan and Emily would someday date. On April 1, 2022, after talking and texting more and more over the past few months, Ethan and Emily went on their first date. Ethan and Emily went to one of their favorite bars (the Green Room in Omaha, NE) and talked about everything under the sun (including the short stories and thesis on subjectivity which Emily wrote while pursuing her undergrad English major). They then watched a movie together at Ethan's apartment before he took her home and gave her a kiss on the porch. However, if you ask Ethan, this was not actually their first date. Ethan asked Emily to go to Zen Coffee in Omaha, NE to study anatomy together before a difficult test. On March 27, 2022, they went; however, not much studying was done. Ethan and Emily mainly talked, and Emily showed Ethan her favorite song ('Slow Dance in a Parking Lot' by Jordan Davis). Let's just say their anatomy test scores were not very good after this "study session." Emily does not consider this as their first date as Ethan never officially asked her on a date. ;) The rest is history. Ethan and Emily continued to date. In July 2022, Ethan brought Emily to the Chicago area to meet his family and friends, and while walking on the Chicago River, Emily and Ethan said they loved each other for the first time. Emily also brought Ethan out to the farm, where he changed from being terrified of cows and bulls, to helping work cattle, run them through the chute, brand them, and more. He also learned to drive a skid loader, a tractor, a trailer, and quickly became a better help to Emily's dad Lee than she was! Ethan also loves the cold, so he is a wonderful help to Lee in the thick of winter. Fast forward a few years, and Ethan and Emily both moved to Lincoln, NE, where Emily works with 0-5 year olds in homes and in preschools as a pediatric occupational therapist, and Ethan works in an outpatient clinic and in homes with adults as a lymphedema occupational therapist. On May 24, 2025, Ethan got down on one knee at the Holy Family Shrine in Gretna, NE and asked Emily to be his wife; this was the same spot that Ethan asked Emily to be his girlfriend almost 3 years ago (on June 4, 2022). That same weekend, Ethan got a kitten from the Schmit farm, which Ethan and Emily lovingly named Wrigley after Wrigley Field. Keep your eyes peeled for a signature Wrigley drink and cups with Wrigley featured on them at Ethan and Emily's wedding reception! ;) Ethan and Emily look forward to starting their life together with you all by their sides on June 20, 2026.
