How We Met

When your dog becomes your wingman

Ethan and I were both working on an emergency response in Port Arthur, Texas. One of our coworkers was hosting a celebration for Robert Burns, a Scottish poet, on January 25th. Ethan was running late and snuck in to the back of the room where the food table was. Naturally, Breslin came up to him wanting snacks. Ethan shared, and brought him back to me with a bottle of scotch. I'm not a scotch fan by any means, but Ethan convinced me it was worth a try. One thing led to another and we spent the entire night laughing and talking. We went on our first date the next night at a local dive bar, and I left the project two days later. But that was all it took. We started dating shortly after, and I knew he was going to be my forever.

The Proposal

The Sunday before Christmas and just two days before we drove up to Michigan to see family, Ethan and I decided to take his dog, Red, for a walk in the park to get some fresh air. After wandering around Two Rivers Park for a few hours, we stopped at a gazebo to play ball with Red. At one point Ethan asked if I wanted to take some photos, and I said sure! He set up his phone on a mini tripod and started recording. This didn't seem weird to me because we had just done the same thing not two weeks ago. Sure enough, he was down on one knee within minutes asking me to marry him. It was the easiest "yes" of my life! And the best part is, we have the entire thing on video.
