I had been asking my sister Cassi’s boyfriend Collin if he had any friends he could fix me up with. One night he showed me pictures of some eligible bachelors that he was friends with on Facebook. I remember one that seemed like a good candidate, but he had a beard which I wasn’t really into. I asked Collin, “How attached to that beard is he?” Collin said, “Very, I think.” So I said, “Nah.” A few weeks later Collin was telling me about a friend that he wanted to fix me up with. I liked what he told me about him, and was eager to meet him. But then I was like, “Oh wait, is that the guy with the beard?” He said that it was, but I decided to meet him anyway. After a while of trying to plan a double date, we finally met at Cheddar’s. We were both a little shy, but I knew I wanted to see him again. He asked for my number right before we left the restaurant. After I got home I was hoping he would text me to tell me he had a good time, and as if he read my mind, he texted me at that moment. We had our first official date a week later. It was snowing and pretty icey, and I was so afraid he would cancel, but he didn’t. We have been together ever since. I loved that at the end of each of our dates he would ask me on another date for the following week. I never had to wonder if he still liked me or if he was going to ask me out again. Needless to say, I got used to his beard.
My long-time friend Collin had been dating Cassi for quite a while before I met Cayla. I remember when they first asked me about meeting her while we were eating at Toot's with our other friends. They showed me a picture of her and of course I was interested, but I felt she was out of my league. Fast forward a while and I had finally gathered the courage to meet Cayla on a double date with Cassi and Collin. I remember being very anxious, but feeling that it went very well. Collin gave me a little help by suggesting we exchange numbers at the end of the evening. After that, we began texting and set up another date. I remember it being a very snowy night, but I was not going to let the inclement weather stop me from the date. We spent the evening watching movies, talking, and sharing so many laughs. I felt like I had known her for a long time and things were so natural. The night ended with a hug I will never forget, and the rest is history.
I have always wanted to be proposed to at Disney World. Some call it a cliché, but it has been my dream ever since I was little, before I even knew what a cliché was. I originally wanted it to be in front of the castle while the fireworks were going off, but then I decided that it was too crowded there, but anywhere else in the park would do. We went to Disney World in December, and we were both very excited to be there while it was all decked out for Christmas. It’s true that I knew it was going to happen on this trip, but I didn’t know where, when, or how. Our first day at Magic Kingdom is when it happened. We were walking around and he asked me if I wanted to make a wish. He took me to this little area that has Cinderella’s wishing well. We realized that we didn’t have any change to throw in the well, so we sat on the bench next to it to see if we had something in our backpack we could throw instead of a penny. While we were sitting on the bench he started saying all of these sweet things, and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I cried and said yes. There was literally no one around, so I got my Disney World proposal, but it was still very personal and intimate.
Everyone who knows Cayla knows she is a Disney fanatic. I had known for quite some time that it had always been her dream to be proposed to in Disney World. The original idea was to pop the question during the nighttime fireworks, but I wanted something more unique and less crowded. I researched and researched trying to find the best hidden 'secret spots' of Magic Kingdom. I decided on Cinderella's Wishing Well. It was a secluded spot with a large wishing well off of the path between Cinderella's Castle and the Tomorrowland area. I spent time each day for a few weeks writing and re-writing how I would ask. On the first day in the park, I was quite anxious, but I was running out of time in the day. I lead her to the wishing well and asked her to marry me. The words weren't exactly what I had practiced, and I'm sure I fumbled around them. There was a "yes", and a combination of tears, smiles, and kisses. Disney World will always be a special place for us, for it is where I asked my princess to be my wife.
