How We Met

A sorority president and fraternity social chair walk into a bar...

Carley and Ethan met at an AEPhi + AEPi exchange their sophomore year of college. Carley had just become president of AEPhi and Ethan was the new social chair of AEPi. At the first social event in their new roles, Carley introduced herself to Ethan assuring him that if he needed anything throughout the night, she was there to help. However, through this small gesture neither knew that this moment would change their lives forever. They chatted throughout the off-campus event and when the bus home was too full, they decided to hang back. They talked over the next hour and when they got home, they locked eyes as they said their goodbyes. The rest is history! They officially started dating on 3/6/2013 and will be getting married on their 8 year anniversary!

Our Engagement

Champaign, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago... now engaged!

Ethan completely surprised Carley!  After 6.5 years together, the time to make their love official had come. Ethan knows how important family is to Carley and so he incorporated them into the proposal.  The night before the proposal, Carley and Ethan went to dinner with their sisters who live out of town and they spent the night in the city.  In the morning, Carley's sister (Hannah) suggested going to get her favorite donuts (Stan's!).  She couldn't say no to that.  They managed to get Carley out the door fully dressed with makeup on and everything.  On their way to get donuts, Ethan's sister (Erin) suggested they stop by this pretty pond near the apartment.  That's when Carley got the first letter.  A heartfelt note about Carley and Ethan's time living in Champaign, Illinois and going to school and the University of Illinois (where they first met).  They then stopped at 2 other locations to represent the other cities they have lived in (SF and LA).  Along the way they picked up Carley's parents (Tod and Jodi) and Ethan's parents (Bob and Robin) and made their way back to the apartment building.  When Carley arrived, Ethan was waiting for her on the rooftop with the beautiful Chicago skyline behind him.  That's when Carley received her final letter and Ethan got down on one knee and proposed.  It was amazing and a moment to be remembered forever!
