How We Met

January 28th, 2014

Kara and Ethan met one chilly Tuesday evening in January of 2014. It was the first rehearsal of the semester for the a cappella group that Kara had just joined. Little did she know, her knight in shining armor would be entering her life atop his noble steed. Yes, during a rehearsal break Ethan and his friend were riding around the room, horsey-style, Ethan sitting on his friend's back. Hey, it got her attention. That night, Kara texted a close friend who happened to be from the same town as Ethan to ask - "Hey, Ethan Lobenstine is pretty cute. He's not gay, right?" Ten VoiceLab concerts later, we're engaged!

Our Story

Kara and Ethan fought through two years of long distance, travelling all the way from Stoneham to Brighton to see one another. After a year of Ethan basically living out of Kara's Brighton apartment, Kara moved in with Ethan... and his brother... and three other roommates...and a dog. This crash course in Lobenstine-livin' went surprisingly well. During these years, Kara picked up running, Ethan picked up yoga, and everyone picked up Addie's poo. They hiked throughout New England, ran a half marathon, got better at cooking, got promoted/ graduated a Masters program, toured the streets on their tandem, and kept singing every Tuesday. After two years together in Cambridge, and a short one-month stint in Kara's parent's house, they moved to Canton MA, where Ethan could be closer to his new teaching job at Middleboro High, and where Kara learned to love the Commuter Rail. After he changed jobs for the 13th time in four years, the pair moved north to Belmont to accommodate Ethan's new commute to Dracut High School. Ethan and Kara have become Sunday afternoon meal-prep-machines, fans of Leslie Knope & Jake Peralta & David Rose, bananagrammers, long-walk-takers, popcorn munchers, homeowners, and...

The Proposal

April 18th, 2019

...Engaged! In April of 2019, Kara and Ethan crossed the pond to the U.K. to visit a friend studying in London. After 4 days of city-hiking and pub-frequenting around London with 8 of their closest friends, the couple broke off and headed north to Windermere in the Lake District. They went fellwalking - hiking through herds of sheep and over a narrow rock scramble - to reach the summit of Helvellyn. Despite a severe and poorly timed stomach bug, Kara made it up the mountain on only a slice of dry toast and an inkling of Ethan's intentions. Ethan popped the question at the summit, and she said yes! We are so thrilled to be celebrating our wedding with you!

The Latest

2020-2021

The pandemic has been a devastation, and we feel incredibly grateful that our friends and family have remained in good health. While this is not the year that anyone thought it would be, we find ourselves increasingly thankful for the joys that the past 13 months have brought us. Joy #1 - Kara and Ethan purchased a home in Acton, MA the summer of 2019 following their engagement. Despite the extra space, Kara's coworkers have thoroughly enjoyed hearing glimpses of Ethan leading a cappella rehearsals downstairs. Joy #2 - Ethan landed an amazing new job as the Choral Director at Framingham High School, and now works alongside Kara's old peers & teachers. His first musical there was a success; an outdoor production of Shrek the Musical, that was performed over Memorial Day Weekend. Joy #3 - ICYMI...Kara & Ethan got married as planned (lol..plans) on the original wedding date, June 20th, 2020, surrounded by immediate family. It was an intimate and lovely celebration at Kara's parents home in Middletown, RI. Although we're already legally hitched, our relationship grew out of friendship and a shared love of our families. Celebrating and dancing (and hopefully hugging for the Lobenstines) with you all will be a dream come true!
