Our first connection, while initially through high school rowing, came during some rainy weather during a Fall pep band night at a home football game. Instead of taking the opportunity to go home early, we ended up staying for three hours in the band room, talking and laughing our way through the evening until our parents came to pick us up. Though we became true friends that night, it was the beginning of many days of laughter, happiness, and deepening love. That night turned into easy walks through the school hallways, breakfasts around town, runs that went by our favorite house in Glastonbury, and above all, time together. Though it wasn’t a romantic relationship, it was a bond that you wanted to be present in, forever. After navigating through the early parts of college, we reconnected in Storrs, regularly resuming our walks, study sessions, and that same sense of sunshine. The world was always warmer when we were together, plain and simple. In Storrs, we deepened our relationship and began to take on our future by each other’s side. We took our adventures further, appreciating the little moments in between. From sea weekends in Rhode Island, hikes through New Hampshire & Maine, saunas and goats in Iceland, to finding all the tanukis in Japan, feeding koi wherever and whenever possible, and doing rose-bud-thorn no matter what our night looks like. Life is best when spent together. Even now, our days are spent with comfortable walks around our neighborhood after coming home from work, cozy breakfasts we cook together in our kitchen, and our future we build together each day. It is a love that helps us tackle the challenges in life together, seek joy in every situation, and brings us as many couch naps as we can squeeze in. It is a love that we were in disbelief for finding so early, but it is one we have grown and cultivated together. I am so grateful for you and the love we share every single day. I am lucky that we always “have each other on lock”.
