Things To Do

There are so many things to do around Cape Town depending on the type of holiday you'd like to have. We've listed some that we've experienced ourselves and others that are recommendations from friends and family. This is a growing list so please feel free to check back to see if there are more activities that take your fancy.
Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park

South Africa

We would recommend that everyone go to the Kruger. They have an airport in the Kruger (Skukuza) which you can fly into from Johannesburg, as well as car rental at the airport. Skukuza is a large and popular campsite, but beware that it books out well in advance so get booking! Self-drive using a rented car is one way to get around the park, but you can also just organise a game drive and game walks. The game walks was one of our favourites activities. We encountered a hyena 2 minutes into the walk and you could just tell that he was deciding whether or not we would be a good pre-breakfast snack!

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

Granger Bay Boulevard, Cape Town, WC 8001, South Africa

The Oranjezicht City Farm Market is a popular farmers market in Cape Town located at the V&A Waterfront. It runs on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, offering a wide range of fresh produce, artisanal food, and drinks. One of our favourites from the market was the samosas, but there are plenty of options to chose from.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain

Cape Town, WC, South Africa

Hike up Table Mountain if you're feeling adventurous or take the cable car up. Either way you will get beautiful views of the city. We unfortunately couldn’t go up Table Mountain because the weather was very windy and cold, so we hiked up Devil's Peak instead which was just as nice! Word of warning though... the hikes are tough.

Wine Tram

Wine Tram

Franschoek, South Africa

We were on the wine tram the last time we were in South Africa. You choose a line (we chose Navy) and which mode of transport you'd like to be on first, the tram or the bus. You select the wineries you'd like to visit on the tram, with a maximum of 6. We completed five, Plaisir, Vrede and Lust, Boschendal, Zorgvliet, Le Pommier. We bought the Black Angus Red from Boschendal and a riesling from Vrede and Lust. Le Pommier we wouldn't recommend but we went there to suss out wedding venues. We recommend sharing the tastings between two where possible, if you want to make it back to your accomodation in the evening.

Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

Jonkershoek Rd, Stellenbosch, South Africa

We didn't go here on our 2025 trip but would if had the chance. There are multiple trails available and permits can be pre-purchased via the MTO website or at the MTO gate on the day.

Babylonstoren Wine Estate

Babylonstoren Wine Estate

Klapmuts - Simondium Road, Simondium, WC 7670, South Africa

This is a beautiful farm producing wine, fruits and vegetables. It's lovely to walk around the gardens, visit the wine museum and see the range of produce they sell.

Cape Peninsula Day Trip

Cape Peninsula Day Trip

To see Cape Town in all of its beauty, start in Cape Town city and move down towards Muizenberg for the beaches. Then to Simon’s Town for a fish and chips lunch before moving to the Cape of Good Hope. Put your hiking shoes in because there are some spectacular spots around there to see. Then make your way back to Cape Town via Kommetjie, Chapman's peak, Hout bay and have some sunset drinks and dinner at Camp's bay.
