This is how I proposed to Esther!
We met each other in high school and COMPLETELY disagree on the details. I remember when I met Esther, she ran up to me while I was walking with a friend and asked for my AIM handle. Unfortunately, Esther's only memory of me from this time period is ‘looking like a twig.' Anyways... LONG after high school, AFTER college, Esther and I reconnected at a party I was hosting. I actually didn't talk to her much at this event, as I was pretty out-of-it, but I remember laughing at some of my friends trying to flirt with her as she sat on the couch, staring at her phone, unamused. After this party, Esther and I would see each other every now and then at other events, but we didn’t become closer until Esther told me, "Eden, every time I see you, you're always partying." I decided I would invite her to have lunch with me, so we could hang out without the background noise. We went to eat at Mr. Bossom, in Yes Plaza, and had Honey Me after for dessert. I remember how happy I was about being on this 'date' with Esther, and how it was actually going really well. After we shared dessert, Esther invited me back to her house to 'watch anime.' I actually didn't really care for anime much, but I was still excited to go back to Esther's place and see where this 'date' would end up. As soon as we got back to hers, Esther brought out a blanket and loaded up an episode of 'One Punch Man' on her laptop. We sat close with the blanket over us, but much to my demise, we were ACTUALLY watching anime. Fortunately, however, I ended up becoming completely entranced, and spent my whole summer binging different anime series. This led to Esther and I spending more time with each other, and becoming closer friends. I also found out much later that Esther never thought this day was a ‘date’. Embarrassing. Esther and I were friends for a long time. We both dated other people, supported each other’s relationships, complained about each other’s relationships to each other, talked to each other daily, and didn’t talk to each other for weeks sometimes. I’m very grateful for this period of friendship between Esther and I. Eventually, I realized how special Esther was to me, and I wanted to ask her out. I trusted Esther enough to know that even if she said ‘no,’ our friendship wouldn’t change. I don’t think Esther ever wanted to date me, or even saw it coming, but when I showed up to her house with some flowers and my guitar, she took a leap of faith and said ‘yes.’ ❤️
