A great local town to visit
Another cute and local small town on the Garonne
Saint Bertrand de Comminges is a pretty medieval town positioned on a hill. It has an interesting cistercian cathedral with 16th century wooden choir and beautiful cloister and of course, great views.
Very cute little town with great history and medieval architecture
This is the underground river of Labouiche in Foix, France. It is said to be the longest subterranean river in Europe!
Very quaint little down just over the border in to spain (so a slightly longer day trip). This place is great for enjoying hiking trails and treating oneself to a lovely, unique local meal. There are three restaurants we return to every time. While they are 'fine' dining, they are reasonably priced: El Portalet, Er Occitane, and Casa Rufus in Gessa a little further along.
For those of you interested in further explorations towards the coast, this is a friends airbnb in the small mediterranean fishing village of Bages. Highly recommend a visit and stay if you have the time.
Montpellier offers a good example of city life and character on the South East coast. You can continue up the coast towards Italy or down towards Spain.
On the opposite coastline you can visit Biarritz. This town offers a beautiful example of the mold of Spanish and French cultures without crossing the border. Its a beach town with a lot of surfing and other fun activities. If you want a smaller more intimate beach excursion, Hossegor is just a little further along and is very very cute.
