Mehendi is yet another traditional yet exciting pre wedding ceremony. The Mehendi Ceremony generally refers to application of a henna paste in elaborate intricate designs on the bride’s hands and feet. An immensely colorful event, the Mehendi ceremony officially kicks off the wedding festivities in full gear. Mehendi is one of the sixteen adornments of the bride and her beauty is incomplete without it. Use of Mehendi in a pre-wedding ritual is not just cosmetic but has deep underlying scientific reasons behind it. Henna is known for its cooling properties and is supposed to calm the bride’s nerves when applied to her hands and feet. The Mehendi Ceremony generally takes place the day before the wedding, in the morning. Note: This is a traditional women centric ceremony and men don't attend/ participate. Muhurthum

7:30 am - 12:00 pm

Savannah I, Radisson Blu Temple Bay

Smart casual

The marriage ceremonies begin with the Vratham performed separately by the bride and the groom. Next is the moment of marrying which is the tying of the Mangalsutra. The bridegroom ties the thread around the neck of the bride. As he does so, the Nadaswaram drums beat loud and fast, to muffle any inauspicious sounds at that critical hour. This is called Getti Melam. Akshadai, i.e. rice-grains coated with turmeric , are showered on the couple, by everyone as a blessing. Holding hands, the newlyweds circle around the fire, and feed it with ghee, and twigs of nine types of trees, as sacrificial fuel. Agni (the fire god), the mightiest power in the cosmos, the sacred purifier, the all-round benefactor, is deemed as a witness to the marriage (Agni saakshi). The couple circle around the fire and feed the fire with parched rice. This is repeated three times. Breakfast and lunch will be served
