Our story began nearly seventeen years ago in the most natural way, at a neighborhood park. A mutual friend introduced us, and before long we were throwing a football, playing catch, and spending easy afternoons together. Kyle was a band kid and I was the rebel. Different, but somehow always connected. Our group of friends often ended up at my house, grabbing a snack and a Capri Sun before settling in to hang out. To this day, Kyle still reaches for a Capri Sun from my fridge, only now, we buy them together. We grew up as close but distant friends, sharing memories without ever stepping beyond that line. Around senior year of high school, life took us in different directions. We moved far apart, each growing into who we were meant to be. When the time was right, we found our way back to each other. We reconnected as friends, but it didn’t take long for something deeper to emerge. One day, while hiking together, Kyle made his move, holding me as we waded into the water beneath a waterfall. It was quiet, powerful, and truly magical. In that moment, we both knew it was the start of something special. Our adventure continued as our relationship grew. On a camping trip for my birthday, we lay in the tent laughing and giggling, mostly at Kyle and Opie’s infamous hot-dog-induced farts. Somewhere between the laughter, the late nights, the fire, long conversations and the freedom of being fully ourselves, everything shifted. We began to see the future differently. Kyle felt it first, emotionally, deeply, and honestly. As for me? I knew when he tried to convince himself he didn’t want something serious… and I saw right through it. That’s when I knew this was real. What started as childhood friendship grew into a love built on history, laughter, honesty, and choosing each other- again and again.
