You know what they say... God bless Texas. Or Tecovas? Who's to say? We met at a New Year's Eve party on December 31, 2021, and let's just say we are forever grateful for an abundance of Andre Champagne and Erin's inability to read. When Erin walked into the party, she was greeted by a small group at a coworker of hers from the Colts house (shoutout to Stevie Sammons and her husband, who happened to be Ty's college roommate!). After a bit of Champagne, Erin noticed the bluest eyes she'd ever seen, attached to a cute blonde guy wearing a "Tecovas" shirt (it's a cowboy boot brand, by the way). Thanks to the champagne, Erin misread the shirt as "Texas" and immediately struck up a conversation with Mr. Blue Eyes, since she had lived in Dallas from 2018 to 2020. They talked all night, even sharing a New Year's Eve kiss. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, since there's now a ring on Erin's finger), this guy was the one person at the small party who did not reside in Indianapolis. He was Ty Dongoski, a Marine stationed in Twenty-Nine Palms, CA, with about a year left in service. Erin quickly realized her mistake when they exchanged numbers, but Ty was quick to express his interest in seeing her again. Erin thought she would never see him again, but Ty had other plans. On the last day he was in town (January 2, 2022), Erin made excuses and ignored some text messages from the persistent Ty. Little did she know, Ty was attending the Colts game she was working. Before she could process it, amid complaints about cold pretzels and the Colts' inability to play football, Ty appeared once more, asking to see her before heading back to California. Eventually, Erin gave in, and the two spent the rest of that lazy Sunday talking and drinking terrible wine. They chatted about family, Erin's obsession with the NFL, Ty's Marine stories, and probably a lot more. Ty promised he would text her regularly, and Erin fully expected to block his number once he left—after all, this could never turn into a real relationship, right? We'll spare you the details from January 2, 2022, to April 2, 2023, but just know that Ty found his way into Erin's thoughts over and over again, never quite letting her give up (or block his number) for too long. They would talk on and off, but from August 5, 2022, to April 2, 2023, they communicated every day. This included many Snapchats, a six-month deployment to the Philippines, and a few bumps along the way. When Ty was finally out of the Marines and back in Nashville, the two realized they would need to meet in person again after spending so much time just living in each other's phones. After a bottle of red wine, Erin mustered up the courage to invite Ty to Indianapolis for a concert, which would serve as the perfect opportunity for them to finally see each other again. And a special thanks to the Colts for those tickets. Their first official date was a Luke Combs and Lainey Wilson concert in Indianapolis on April 1, 2022, and since then, they've been inseparable. From four-hour drives back and forth between Indianapolis and Nashville, tens of thousands of miles on both cars, endless FaceTimes, and trips to multiple states, Erin finally moved to Nashville in February 2024. Ty had dreamed up numerous proposals (most of which Erin inadvertently ruined for herself), and ultimately, he proposed just 12 hours after picking up the ring. It happened in their apartment kitchen on the morning of Erin's birthday, June 8, 2024. Still in pajamas and wearing glasses, they shared the best moment of their lives. Afterward, they celebrated with mimosas, Louisiana Lemonades, and another Lainey Wilson concert—making it the best day ever. We are so lucky so many small moments have led to us and truly wouldn't write the story any other way. We can't wait to celebrate with you on September 27th, and enjoy many tacos, many laughs and many drinks with you all!
