Here is a map we created with restaurants, hikes, and activities we recommend during your time in Hawaii!
Ali’i Beach is not your stereotypical long sandy white beach, in fact, it is the opposite. This rocky shallow spot is the perfect place to spot green sea turtles or as the Hawaiians say “honus.” The honu is a symbol of luck, wisdom, and positive energy in Hawaiian culture. If you see one of these scared animals, admire and enjoy knowing good fortune is coming your way, but please do not touch or disturb them. Located in Hale’iwa, Ail’i Beach is walking distance to some of the best eats on the island. Just to name a few we recommend Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, Farm to Barn, Teddy’s Bigger Burger, and Hale’iwa Joes! Pro tip: if you are ballin on a budget and looking to score delicious poke then check out the Malama Market (also walking distance).
Better known as the Pink Pillbox Hike is located on the west side of Hawaii. The pillboxes were built during World War 2 to serve as an outpost for soldiers to detect approaching enemy ships or planes. Where once pillboxes offered camouflage for military machinery, now they are a popular hiking location painted in vivid colors! The bright pink bunker now is a symbol of breast cancer awareness. Hikers bring a sharpie to sign their name or the name of someone who is battling or has battled breast cancer. The Pu’u O Hulu hike is 1.6 miles offering 360 stunning split views of the island and ocean. From the top you can see KoOlina, Electric Beach, and Mākaha Beach Park.
Halona is the Hawaiian word for lookout which is exactly what you will need to do when visiting this one of a kind spot! Located near Hanauma Bay, this unique rock formation shoots sea water through a cave up to 30 ft like a geyser!! To get to this authentic spot, you have to hike the short path down to Halona Beach Cove or “Cockroach Cove” which is famous for its small bay which acts like a wave pool. It is a great place to jump off the rocks into the water, get a tan, and there is a small lava tube you can check out! But don't be fooled by the baby lava tube! If you walk across the street and over the guardrail, there is a lava tube large enough that you can walk through that leads under the road. Once you come out the other side it opens up to a private cove with stunning views of the crashing waves. Definity don't swim here, but totally worth checking out!
